Leroy overtakes the lead in Brunswick Euro Challenge after Squad 4

    2008EBT05OlivierLeroy.jpg Olivier Leroy (left), Belgium, finished his six-game qualifying block Saturday afternoon with a 222 game to beat out Anne Lorraine Gales, Denmark, for the top spot in qualifying after four squads by one pin. Leroy totaled 1239 pins, an average of 206.50. Gales added 48 pins handicap, a standard on the European Bowling Tour for women, to her her 1190 pinfall to sit in second place with 1238.

    Previous leader Gery Verbruggen, Belgium, slipped to third place with 1228. Yoan Alix, France, tied Verbruggen at 1228 but sits in fourth place due to the lower last game, 202-195 in favor of Verbruggen. Gery Hacquin, Belgium, moved into fifth place with 1221. Sixth place belonged to Michael Coussens, Belgium, with 1172 or an average of 195.33.

    The top 6 from a separate standing for the squads conducted March 7-9, who will not finish among the top 52 qualifiers, will earn a berth into the finals on Sunday, March 16. Qualifying continues on Sunday with Squad 5 scheduled for 5 p.m..

    BECLogo_small.gif The 5th annual Brunswick Euro Challenge runs through March 16, 2008. Approximately 450 players from 38 countries will participate including PBA stars such as Brian Voss, Mika Koivuniemi, Sean Rash and Mike Fagan.

    The Brunswick Euro Challenge offers total prize fund of 90,000 Euros (currently approx. $136,500) and offers special prizes that will be given in categories such as youth encouragement, "B" bowlers and ladies.

    Plaza Bowling Saint Maximin is a 28-lane Brunswick-equipped facility located 40 kilometers north of Paris and close to Charles de Gaulle (CDG) international airport. The bowling center features Brunswick lanes, scoring, pinsetters, pins and lane maintenance. Plaza Bowling also offers ample room for spectators to view the entire tournament.
