The 34-time PBA champion and PBA and USBC Hall of Famer fell 1575 pins and averaged 262.50 for his six games.
German veteran Jens Nickel was close behind in second place with 1553. Defending European ranking champion Osku Palermaa, Finland, landed in third with 1532.
Rounding out the top 6, who will bypass the first two round of the final on Sunday were Mathias Arup, Sweden (1450), Frederik Ohrgaard, Denmark (1443) and Jason Belmonte, Australia (1422).
Saturday morning squad winner Nicole Sanders (left) was the first woman in this year's event who became a squad winner with 1391 including 48 pins handicap, the standard for women on the European Bowling Tour.
The second squad had five 1300s including winner Øhrgaard (right), who moved into fifth place. Tim Mack was second and finally managed to qualify with his 1388 after many re-entries. Peter Ljung, Sweden improved his total to 1371.
Achim Grabowski from Germany was the "man on the bubble" before the final squad but promised to improve his score to make the cut. And that was what he did. Grabowki rolled a 1355 to move up to 25th place.

Yoan Alix from France, who led the fourth Storm San Marino Open at Rose'n Bowl in Serravalle, San Marino, since squad 7 on Monday evening with 1384 six-game total fell to fifth place within the first two squads (No. 14 and 15 out of 24) on Thursday.
PBA super star Pete Weber (left), United States, and German veteran Jens Nickel battled it out for the lead in squad 14. Nickel came out of the gates quickly with 290 and 226, while Weber had a "slow start" into the day with 228 and 235. Both players rolled a 279 game in the next game to give Nickel a 795 to 742 lead at the halfway point.
Weber narrowed the gap with a 290 in game #4 to Nickel's 257. The 34-time PBA champion and PBA and USBC Hall of Famer added another 289 in the fifth (858 for games 3-5) to overtake the lead as Nickel managed "only" 245. The German narrowed the gap by two pins in game #6, 256-254, but had to settle for second place with 1553 and an average of 258.83.
Weber was 18 pins ahead to move to the top of the leaderboard with 1575 and an average of 262.50.
Defending European ranking champion Osku Palermaa (right), Finland, and former PBA exempt player Tore Torgersen, Norway, were 1,2 in squad 15 to leap into third and fourth place with 1532 and 1395, respectively.
Alix slipped to fifth place with 1384, followed by squad 16 leader Guy Caminsky (left), South Africa. The World Tenpin Masters champion sits in sixth place with 1383, mere one pin behind Alix. Remy Ong from Singapore fell from second to seventh with 1375.
Mattias Jansson, Sweden, overtook his father, former world and European champion Raymond Jansson, by 4 pins to move into 8th place with 1374. Raymond is 9th with 1370. Rounding out the top 10 is Italian Massimiliano Celli with 1358.
Marilyn Planchard, France, is the top-ranked women in the field of 187 players with 1356 including 48 pins handicap, a standard on the European Bowling Tour for women. Mauro Montanari, Italy, currently holds the 38th and final qualifying spot with 1271 (211.83).
If you scroll further down in the qualifying chart you'll find a guy named Robert Kubica from Poland. Does the name sound familiar to you? Well, it should especially if you are watching Formula One racing.
Kubica, who is currently fourth in the driver's championship and won his first Grand Prix this season in Canada for the BMW Sauber racing team, bowled in the San Marino Open Wednesday, according to Michal Swierz, who helped him to get a license from the Polish Bowling Federation. Kubica had two games over 200 and finished with 1069, an average of 178.17, good enough for 157th place so far.
Kegel's Ted Thompson reported that Adriano Santi, the tournament host, said he received a call from Kubica's agent saying "he had an important sports figure that would like to play the tournament but would like to keep a low profile for him so he could enjoy his time there."
Santi kept true to his word but after receiving such warm hospitality during his days at the event, Kubica kindly repaid the tournament organization Wednesday morning with a special photo session and live-televised presentation of "Grazie" (Thanks) by the President of the San Marino Racing Car Association, Valli Stefano.

Remy Ong (left) from Singapore used back-to-back 290 and 279 in games three and four in squad 10 to jump into second place in the overall standings with 1375 and an average of 229.17.
Squad 11 was led by Swedish veteran Raymond Jansson (right), whose 1370 propelled him into third place. With a 257 in the final game, Raymond overtook his son Mattias Jansson, who finished the squad in second place with 1355 en route to move into fifth overall.
Mattias missed the fourth and final extra spot for the finals (top 4 from a combined standing of squads 6-12) by three pins as squad 12 leader Massimiliano Celli, Italy, squeezed in with 1358.
The first weekend qualifiers were Amadeo Spada, Sergio Fabbietti and Gianluca Badiali, all from Italy. The qualifiers from Monday-Wednesday squads were Yoan Alix, France, who hold on to the lead with 1384 (230.67), Remy Ong, Raymond Jansson and Massimiliano Celli.
If any of these bowlers will finish qualifying among the top 38, the next bowler in their group will advance to the finals.

Pete Weber wins qualifying in 4th Storm San Marino Open
PBA super star Pete Weber (pictured left), United States, won the qualifying in the 4th Storm San Marino Open Rose'n Bowl in Serravalle, San Marino. The 34-time PBA champion and PBA and USBC Hall of Famer fell 1575 pins and averaged 262.50 for his six games.
German veteran Jens Nickel was close behind in second place with 1553. Defending European ranking champion Osku Palermaa, Finland, landed in third with 1532. Rounding out the top 6, who will bypass the first two round of the final on Sunday were Mathias Arup, Sweden (1450), Frederik Ohrgaard, Denmark (1443) and Jason Belmonte, Australia (1422).
Saturday morning squad winner Nicole Sanders (left) was the first woman in this year's event who became a squad winner with 1391 including 48 pins handicap, the standard for women on the European Bowling Tour. The second squad had five 1300s including winner Øhrgaard (right), who moved into fifth place. Tim Mack was second and finally managed to qualify with his 1388 after many re-entries. Peter Ljung, Sweden improved his total to 1371. Achim Grabowski from Germany was the "man on the bubble" before the final squad but promised to improve his score to make the cut. And that was what he did. Grabowki rolled a 1355 to move up to 25th place. A total of 48 players will advance to the finals on Sunday: The top 38 players from the qualifying plus the top 3 from squads 1-5 (combined standings) and the top 4 from squads 6-12 (combined standings) and finally the top 3 from the Desperado Squad. The top 6 qualifiers earn two byes, while qualifiers 6-12 will get one.
The other 36 will bowl four games from scratch to the top 18, who will meet qualifiers 6-12 in round two. They bowl another 4-game set to cut to the top 10, who will meet the top six qualifiers in single elimination match play over two games total pinfall.
The highest seeded player bowls the lowest seeded, the second-highest seeded players bowls the second-lowest and so on. The field will be cut to 8, 4 then 2, who will bowl for the EBT "major" title and the 10.000 Euro top prize.

Five players crack top 10 in 4th Storm San Marino Open
Five players moved into the top 10 in the qualifying for the 4th Storm San Marino Open Friday at Rose'n Bowl in Serravalle, San Marino.Mathias Arup (left), Sweden, posted the highest six-game total of the day with 1450 to jump into 4th place in the overall qualifying standings.
PBA super star Pete Weber, United States, remained atop the leaderboard with 1575 and an average of 262.50. Jens Nickel, Germany, is second with 1553, followed by 2007 European ranking champion Osku Palermaa, Finland, in third place with 1532.
Jason Belmonte (right), the two-hander from Down Under moved up to fifth behind a 1422 series. Tore Torgersen, Norway, slipped to sixth with 1418. Finn Jouni Helminen (left) is seventh with 1404, with Robert Andersson in 8th place (1394) and Thomas Gross, Austria, 9th (1392).
Rounding out the top 10 is Yoan Alix, France, with 1384. His fellow countrywoman Marilyn Planchard is the best of five women among the top 38 in 18th place with 1356 including 48 pins handicap, a standard on the European Bowling Tour for women.

Qualifying ends on Saturday, July 19th, with 4 more squads and the "Desperado Squad". A total of 48 players will advance to the finals on Sunday: The top 38 players from the qualifying plus the top 3 from squads 1-5 (combined standings) and the top 4 from squads 6-12 (combined standings) and finally the top 3 from the Desperado Squad. The top 6 qualifiers earn two byes, while qualifiers 6-12 will get one.
The other 36 will bowl four games from scratch to the top 18, who will meet qualifiers 6-12 in round two. They bowl another 4-game set to cut to the top 10, who will meet the top six qualifiers in single elimination match play over two games total pinfall.
The highest seeded player bowls the lowest seeded, the second-highest seeded players bowls the second-lowest and so on. The field will be cut to 8, 4 then 2, who will bowl for the EBT "major" title and the 10.000 Euro top prize.
Weber, Nickel power their way into the lead in fourth Storm San Marino Open
Yoan Alix from France, who led the fourth Storm San Marino Open at Rose'n Bowl in Serravalle, San Marino, since squad 7 on Monday evening with 1384 six-game total fell to fifth place within the first two squads (No. 14 and 15 out of 24) on Thursday.PBA super star Pete Weber (left), United States, and German veteran Jens Nickel battled it out for the lead in squad 14. Nickel came out of the gates quickly with 290 and 226, while Weber had a "slow start" into the day with 228 and 235. Both players rolled a 279 game in the next game to give Nickel a 795 to 742 lead at the halfway point.
Weber narrowed the gap with a 290 in game #4 to Nickel's 257. The 34-time PBA champion and PBA and USBC Hall of Famer added another 289 in the fifth (858 for games 3-5) to overtake the lead as Nickel managed "only" 245. The German narrowed the gap by two pins in game #6, 256-254, but had to settle for second place with 1553 and an average of 258.83.
Weber was 18 pins ahead to move to the top of the leaderboard with 1575 and an average of 262.50.
Defending European ranking champion Osku Palermaa (right), Finland, and former PBA exempt player Tore Torgersen, Norway, were 1,2 in squad 15 to leap into third and fourth place with 1532 and 1395, respectively. Alix slipped to fifth place with 1384, followed by squad 16 leader Guy Caminsky (left), South Africa. The World Tenpin Masters champion sits in sixth place with 1383, mere one pin behind Alix. Remy Ong from Singapore fell from second to seventh with 1375.Mattias Jansson, Sweden, overtook his father, former world and European champion Raymond Jansson, by 4 pins to move into 8th place with 1374. Raymond is 9th with 1370. Rounding out the top 10 is Italian Massimiliano Celli with 1358.
Marilyn Planchard, France, is the top-ranked women in the field of 187 players with 1356 including 48 pins handicap, a standard on the European Bowling Tour for women. Mauro Montanari, Italy, currently holds the 38th and final qualifying spot with 1271 (211.83).
If you scroll further down in the qualifying chart you'll find a guy named Robert Kubica from Poland. Does the name sound familiar to you? Well, it should especially if you are watching Formula One racing.
Kubica, who is currently fourth in the driver's championship and won his first Grand Prix this season in Canada for the BMW Sauber racing team, bowled in the San Marino Open Wednesday, according to Michal Swierz, who helped him to get a license from the Polish Bowling Federation. Kubica had two games over 200 and finished with 1069, an average of 178.17, good enough for 157th place so far.
Kegel's Ted Thompson reported that Adriano Santi, the tournament host, said he received a call from Kubica's agent saying "he had an important sports figure that would like to play the tournament but would like to keep a low profile for him so he could enjoy his time there."Santi kept true to his word but after receiving such warm hospitality during his days at the event, Kubica kindly repaid the tournament organization Wednesday morning with a special photo session and live-televised presentation of "Grazie" (Thanks) by the President of the San Marino Racing Car Association, Valli Stefano.

Alix holds on to the lead in 4th Storm San Marino Open
Qualifying for the 4th Storm San Marino Open reached the halfway mark Wednesday at Rose'n Bowl in Serravalle, San Marino. Squads 10-12 were the final squads which offered extra spots for the finals. Remy Ong (left) from Singapore used back-to-back 290 and 279 in games three and four in squad 10 to jump into second place in the overall standings with 1375 and an average of 229.17.
Squad 11 was led by Swedish veteran Raymond Jansson (right), whose 1370 propelled him into third place. With a 257 in the final game, Raymond overtook his son Mattias Jansson, who finished the squad in second place with 1355 en route to move into fifth overall. Mattias missed the fourth and final extra spot for the finals (top 4 from a combined standing of squads 6-12) by three pins as squad 12 leader Massimiliano Celli, Italy, squeezed in with 1358.
The first weekend qualifiers were Amadeo Spada, Sergio Fabbietti and Gianluca Badiali, all from Italy. The qualifiers from Monday-Wednesday squads were Yoan Alix, France, who hold on to the lead with 1384 (230.67), Remy Ong, Raymond Jansson and Massimiliano Celli.
If any of these bowlers will finish qualifying among the top 38, the next bowler in their group will advance to the finals.

With nine out of 24 qualifying squads in the books, Yoan Alix (left), France continued to lead the 4th Storm San Marino Open at Rose'n Bowl in Serravalle, San Marino with 1384 six-game total and an average of 230.67. Federico Rossi and Amadeo Spada, both Italy, led squads 8 and 9 on Tuesday en route to move into second and third place. Rossi totaled 1348 pins including a 265 game to move into second place averaging 224.67 for the round. Spada (right), who led the tournament after the first weekend with 1320 and has already secured a spot for the finals, improved his total in squad 9 to 1344 (224.00). Rounding out the top 5 are Ettore Bacciocchi from San Marino with 1337 and Sergio Fabbietti with 1314. Raffaella Fusco is the top-ranked woman in the field (113 players including 9 women) in 16th place with 1264 including 48 pins handicap, the standard on the European Bowling Tour. Stefano Quaranta, all Italy, currently mans the 38th and final qualifying position with 1204, an average of 200.67.

Alix moves to the top in San Marino
Yoan Alix (left), France used a high game of 268 and three 230s en route to move to the top of the leaderboard Monday 4th Storm San Marino Open at Rose'n Bowl in Serravalle, San Marino. Alix felled 1384 pins, an average of 230.67 for six games, to overtake previous leader Amedeo Spada by 64 pins. Spada slipped to third place with 1320 as Ettore Bacciocchi from San Marino passed the Italian to leap into second place with 1337. Fourth place belonged to Sergio Fabbietti with 1314.
Rounding out the top 5 is Marco Boccato (right), both Italy, who improved his score to 1296 and is third in the separate standings for squads 6-12 thus far. Spada leads in 4th Storm San Marino Open after first weekend

The long-time Italian national team member had games of 191, 212, 217, 228, 220 and 252 for 1320 six-game total, an average of 220.00. Sergio Fabbieto (right), who led Squad 2, was second with 1314, with Gianluca Badiali in third with 1295. As the top three players from the first weekend those three earned an automatic berth into the finals on Sunday, July 20. However, if any of them make the top 38 in the overall qualifying standings, the next best players from the first weekend will advance from the squad 1-5 standings.
Claudio Ajola was fourth with 1289, while squad 1 leader Giuliano Signori (left) landed in fifth with 1274. Sixth place belonged to Dante Didon Francesco, all Italy, with 1262. Italians take the early lead in 4th Storm San Marino Open
The 4th Storm San Marino Open is the 10stop of the 2008 European Bowling Tour and got underway Saturday at Rose'n Bowl in Serravalle, San Marino. Sergio Fabbieto, who led Squad 2, overtook the lead after day one qualifying with 1314 six-game total and an average of 219.00. Gianluca Badiali was second with 1295, with squad 1 leader Giuliano Signori in third at 1274.
