Weber wins his first EBT title in 30th Trofeu Internacional Ciutat de Barcelona

    PBA super star Pete Weber (l.) won two matches en route to claim his first career European Bowling Tour title in the 30th Trofeu Internacional Ciutat de Barcelona at Bowling Pedralbes in Barcelona, Spain.

    The PBA Hall of Famer, who had back-to-back 300 games in qualifying topped No. 3 seeded Nicole Sanders, Netherlands, 236-211 in the semifinal and went on to defeat No. 1 seeded Paul Moor (r.), 214-211 in the championship match.

    Weber earned 12.000 Euro or approx. $18,850 for 1st place and moved up into a tied 16th place in the EBT rankings, Moor received 6.000 Euro for second and Sanders, who won the women's rankings, pocketed 3.000 Euro for third place.

    Moor, Weber, Sanders to bowl for the title in Barcelona

    Moor beat out PBA Hall of Famer Pete Weber (r.) for the top spot by seven pins. Weber, who had back-to-back 300 games in qualifying jumped from 7th to second with 2505 behind the field-best 935 series.

    Thomas Larsen, Denmark, and Pasi Uotila, Finland, missed the cut by 5 and 9 pins to settle for fourth and fifth place, resp.

    Rash wins qualifying in 30th Trofeu Internacional Ciutat de Barcelona

Rash posted a 1444 six-game total on Saturday to beat out Weber's 1420.

    Weber set the tournament highlight on Friday when he rolled back-to-back 300 games. Martin Larsen (below left), Sweden, was the third and last other player, who reached the 1400-plateu with 1408.

A total of 48 players - the top 41 including squad 1-14 leaders, the next-best six women (places 43, 47, 48, 50, 56, and 63) and squad 15 leader (44th) advanced to the finals on Sunday.

    Weber shoots back-to-back 300 games to take the lead in Barcelona


    2007PBAPeteWeber.jpg PBA super star Pete Weber (pictured left) rolled back-to-back 300 games in Squad 10 on Friday at Bowling Pedralbes en route to overtake the lead in the qualifying of the 30th Trofeu Internacional Ciutat de Barcelona.

    Weber, who had the tournament's second and third perfecto in games 3 and 4, checked in with 1420 six-game total and an average of 236.67. Swede Martin Larsen was close behind with 1408. Previous leader Jimmy Mortensen, Denmark, slipped to third with 1395. Robert Andersson, Sweden, who had the first 300, is fourth with 1387.

    Qualifying ends on Saturday with four more squads.  The 15 squad leaders plus the top 27 qualifiers and the next best six women will advance to the finals on Sunday, July 27, 2008. The winner will walk away with the 12.000 Euro top prize.

The Dane, one of seven squad leaders thus far, has felled 1395 pins, an average of 232.50 over six games.

    Nicole Sanders    , Netherlands, is the top ranked woman in fourth place with 1375 including 48 pins handicap, a standard on the European Bowling Tour.
