Barrett defeats Uotila to win first EBT Premier event in Ankara

Dominic Barrett from England, the No. 2 seed, flew past Pasi Uotila, Finland, seeded fourth, in the title match of the Ankara Open, the 13th event of the 2008 European Bowling Tour and the Tour's first-ever "Premier" event, 490-413 over two games total pinfall, to win the title and the 15-000 Euro top prize.
Barrett, who won two gold medals at the World Youth Championships in Orlando in July, took a 66-pin lead after the first game (269-202) and never looked back.
Uotila was consoled with 10.000 Euro. Osku Palermaa, Finland, and Alexey Parshukov, Russia, who fell to Uotila and Barrett in the semis, received 6.000 Euro each. 9th place finisher
Britt Brøndsted, Denmark, won the women's rankings plus a 1.500 Euro bonus.

The Ankara Open got underway yesterday with the first three of total 26 qualifying squads at Rollhouse Bowling Center in Ankara, Turkey. The 100.000 Euro tournament is the 13th event of the 2008 European Bowling Tour and the Tour's first-ever "Premier" event.
The first day of qualifying drew 67 players, all but Russian Maksut Abdulganiev from Turkey. Just four men and one woman cracked the 1200-bar (200 average).
Burak Natal (pictured right) set the pace with 1258 and an average of 209.67. Gülhan Aksular was second with 1253 including 48 pins women's handicap, a standard on the European Bowling Tour. Rounding out the top 5 were Mithat Åživeliol (1230), Habib DoÄŸan (1205) and Barış EroÄŸlu (1203).
Qualifying runs through Saturday, Sep. 20, and ends with the Desperado Squad on early Sunday morning. A total of 56 players will qualify for the finals.

Rollhouse Bowling Center in Ankara, Turkey (Sep. 13-21, 2008)
Dominic Barrett from England, the No. 2 seed, flew past Pasi Uotila, Finland, seeded fourth, in the title match of the Ankara Open, the 13th event of the 2008 European Bowling Tour and the Tour's first-ever "Premier" event, 490-413 over two games total pinfall, to win the title and the 15-000 Euro top prize. Barrett, who won two gold medals at the World Youth Championships in Orlando in July, took a 66-pin lead after the first game (269-202) and never looked back.
Uotila was consoled with 10.000 Euro. Osku Palermaa, Finland, and Alexey Parshukov, Russia, who fell to Uotila and Barrett in the semis, received 6.000 Euro each. 9th place finisher
Britt Brøndsted, Denmark, won the women's rankings plus a 1.500 Euro bonus.

Jesper Agerbo (left) from Denmark won the qualifying of the 100.000 Euro Ankara Open, the first-ever European Bowling Tour "Premier" event, at Rollhouse Bowling Center in Ankara, Turkey and a 1.000 Euro bonus. Agerbo, silver medalist in Masters at the Men's World Championships last month, felled 1454 pins, an average of 242.33. Martin Larsen from Sweden finished was mere six pins behind to finish second with 1448 (241.33). Reigning EBT rankings champion and current ranking leader Osku Palermaa (right), Finland, highlighted the final day of qualifying when he rolled the tournament's first 300 game to start squad 25. He finished with 1446, seven pins better than his previous high series, to stay in third place. Rounding out the top 8, who cannot fall lower than 16th in the final standings, were 4. Martin Larsen (right) from Sweden finished the 21st qualifying squad with three 250 games (258, 254, 258) to leap into second place with 1448 pinfall total (241.33). Reigning EBT rankings champion and current ranking leader Osku Palermaa (left), Finland, who had a 290 high game in his 1439 series, moved into third place. The first-ever EBT "Premiere" is underway in Ankara, Turkey
The Ankara Open got underway yesterday with the first three of total 26 qualifying squads at Rollhouse Bowling Center in Ankara, Turkey. The 100.000 Euro tournament is the 13th event of the 2008 European Bowling Tour and the Tour's first-ever "Premier" event. The first day of qualifying drew 67 players, all but Russian Maksut Abdulganiev from Turkey. Just four men and one woman cracked the 1200-bar (200 average). Burak Natal (pictured right) set the pace with 1258 and an average of 209.67. Gülhan Aksular was second with 1253 including 48 pins women's handicap, a standard on the European Bowling Tour. Rounding out the top 5 were Mithat Åživeliol (1230), Habib DoÄŸan (1205) and Barış EroÄŸlu (1203).
