Mai had games of 226, 259, 204, 168, 269 and 277, an average of 233.83 and added 48 pins handicap, a standard for women on the European Bowling Tour, to win the qualifying with 1451 pinfall total. She received a 1.000 Euro bonus.

Anja was mere five pins behind with 1446 after games of 204, 250, 233, 235, 225 and 251.

2009EBT10AaronKong.jpg2009WWCHelenJohnson.jpgPrevious leader Aaron Kong (left), Malaysia, slipped to third place with 1446 due to Anja's higher last game 259 (251+8) to 255. Helén Johnsson (right), Sweden, had six games between 200 and 255 to land in fourth place with 1444 including handicap.

Two-time defending European Bowling Tour ranking champion Osku Palermaa, Finland, was fifth with 1443, followed by Adrian Ang, Malaysia, with 1417 and Thomas Larsen, Denmark, with 1415.

Former world champion Patrick Backe, Sweden, averaged 234.50 and posted a 1407 series to take the 8th and final spot to earn three byes in the finals. The cut for the top 16 was 1384 and the cut for the top 24 was 1362. Places 9-16 receive two byes and places 17-24 get one.

Jussi Lindgren, Finland, hit the cutoff number for 40th place with 1320 or an average of 220.00.

Besides the top 40 the top six players each from Squads 1-6 (Sept. 5&6) and Squads 7-12 (Sept. 7&8) and the top 4 from the Desperado Squad advanced to the finals.

Rikke Holm Rasmussen, Denmark, and Nicki Ainge , England led the Desperado Squad with 266 and 265 including 8 pins handicap, resp. European Masters champion Paul Moor, England (244) and Mikael Kanold, Sweden (241) grabbed the remaining two spots.

Players ranked 33-56 after qualifying advance to the first of four rounds over 4 games total pinfall starting from scratch.

Once the field is cut to 8 players the format will change to single-elimination match play in bracket format; each match over two games total pinfall. The field will be trimmed to four then two players, who will bowl for the title worth 10.000 Euro and 100 EBT ranking points.

The Ankara Open is the 10th stop of the 2009 European Bowling Tour and one of the Tour's "Major" tournaments. As reported earlier, the Ankara Open has changed its EBT status from Premier to Major due to reduced prize money (70.000 Euro instead of 100.000) as a consequence of the global financial crisis.
