Ivan Semenov triumphs in 1st Pavlovskiy Posad Open

    Darya Kovalova, Ukraine, wins women's ranking

In the championship match at B-35 Bowling Center in Pavlovskiy Posad, Russia, qualifying leader and No. 1 seed, Ivan Semenov (pictured left) defeated No. 2 seed Alexey Parshukov (right), 525-457, to win his first European Bowling Tour title and the 4.500 Euro top prize.

    In the final over two games with the total pinfall to determine the winner, Semenov took a 21-pin lead in the first game (236-215) and cruised to victory with the highest game of the tournament, 289 to 242.

    In the semifinal, Semenov, eliminated fellow national team member Gennagy Sidorov, 505-442, while Parshukov ousted Russian international Sergey Andreev, 456-344.

    In the roil-off for third and fourth place Sidorov defeated Andreev, 403-390. Parshukov pocketed 3.400 Euro for second place, Sidorov took 2.700 Euro for third place and Andreev received 1.800 Euro for fourth place.

    The 48 finalists bowled two rounds of four games to trim the field to 16 players who advanced to single-elimination match play finals.

    However, the Round of 16 started with a mistake. Other than announced in the tournament rules, the top 10 of Final Round Two weren't seeded 7th though 16th according to their positions in Round 2 but based on their qualifying positions.

    2010EBT14AlenaKorobkova.jpg2010EBT14DariaKovaleva.jpgBesides the different pairing in the Round of 16 the mistake affected positions 5, 7, 8, 13 and 14 in the men's ranking and the No. 1 and No. 2 position in the women's rankings.

    As the two remaining women in the field, Alena Korobkova (pictured left), Russia, and Darya Kovalova (right), Ukraine, were both eliminated in the Round of 16, the seeding determined the ranking winner.

    Korobkova, who led Final Round Two, should have been seeded 7th with Kovalova 15th due to her 9th place finish (Note: The top sis qualifiers earned the top six spots), which would have resulted in a victory for Korobkova in the women's rankings.

    Instead Kovalova was seeded 7th and Korobkova 8th equivalent to their qualifying positions which would have made Kovalova the ranking champion.

    Please note: The organizer has adjusted the finals standings and the men's and women's rankings based on the correct seeding. There were no changes in the prize money as all players, who were eliminated in the same round, received the same amount of money.

    2010PavlovskiyPosadOpenLogo.jpg The Pavlovskiy Posad Open was a newcomer on the European Bowling Tour and the first tournament in Russia in the 11-year history of the Tour. The 1st Pavlovskiy Posad Open was held from Sept. 14-19, 2010 at B-35 Bowling Center, a 14-laner in Pavlovskiy Posad, a city of approx. 65,000 people some 70 kilometers East of Russia's capital city of Moscow.

    The tournament offered total prize fund of 23.000 Euro with 4.500 Euro going to the winner. Women received 8 pins handicap each game, a standard for women on the European Bowling Tour

    The tournament was the 14th stop of the 2010 European Bowling Tour and one of the Tour's "Satellite" tournaments. 50 ranking points are on the line for the winner of the men's and women's rankings in Pavlovskiy Posad, respectively.

    Since the Ankara Open and the Austria Challenge have been cancelled and the English Open has lost its EBT status, the 2010 EBT Tour consists of 18 events - 2 EBT Platinum tournament (formerly Premier), 6 EBT Gold tournaments (formerly Major), 6 EBT Silver tournaments (formerly Challenger) and 4 EBT Satellite tournaments (new category).

    Qualifying ran from Tuesday, Sept. 14th through Saturday, Sept. 18th. All players bowled at least one six-game series. A total of 48 players advanced to the finals on Sunday, Sept. 19th: the top 44 players from the overall qualifying standings plus the top 4 of the Desperado Squad.

    The top 6 qualifiers earned two byes, while players seeded 7-20 bypass the first round of the finals.

    The remaining 28 players bowled 4 games starting from scratch with the top 14 advancing to the second round. The second round was played in the same format with the top 10 advancing to single-elimination match play

    Match play was two games with the total pinfall to determine the winner. In all matches the highest seeded player met the lowest seeded player, the second highest seeded player met the second lowest seeded player etc.

    The field was trimmed to 8 and then 4 players who advanced to the semifinals. The winners of the semifinal matches bowled for the title and the 4.500 Euro top prize. The losers of the semifinals bowled a two-game roll-off for third and fourth place.
