Remco van Dommelen, Ellen Jansen share the lead in Squad 5 at HBS Tournament

    Four Dutch women move into the top 10 in qualifying

    2011EBT03DaveWouters.jpgRemco van Dommelen and Ellen Jansen, both Netherlands, missed the top qualifying position in the Hammer Bronzen Schietspoel Tournament by just one pin as the duo tied at 1367 in Wednesday's Squad 5 at Dolfijn Bowling Tilburg in Tilburg, Netherlands. Dave Wouters (pictured left), Netherlands, leads since day one with 1368 six-game total and an average of 228.

    Van Dommelen had games of 242, 216, 215, 233, 225 and a final 236, an average of 227.83, to move into second place in the overall qualifying standings due to the higher last game. Jansen, who had games of 238, 224, 203, 212, 236 and 206 for 1319 scratch, an average of 219.83, and 1367 including handicap (8 pins per game) overtook third place.

    Besides Jansen, another three Dutch women moved into the top 10 during Squad 5. Trailing van Dommelen and Jansen by mere three pins to leap into fourth place was Lisanne Breeschoten, who started her six-game series with back-to-back 240s followed by two sub-200 games and a 226 duplicate at the end for 1364 total.

    Breeschoten's fellow national team members Nicole Sanders and Ghislaine van der Tol checked in with 1336 and 1321 to move into seventh and ninth place on the leaderboard, respectively.

    Rounding out the top ten were Gery Verbruggen, Belgium, and Dutch Michell Stinissen in fifth and sixth place with 1356, Xavier Milet, Belgium in eighth place with 1333 and Dirk Dreyer, Germany, in tenth place with 1315.

    With 102 players - 73 men and 20 women - from six countries, Belgium, Germany, Netherlands, Poland, Serbia and United States, in the books, Bianca Wiekeraad, Netherlands, holds the 38th and last place to advance with 1232.

    Qualifying continues on Thursday, March 3 with Squad 6-8 scheduled for noon, 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. CET. The winner of Squad 6 will receive a 1.000 Euro bonus by tournament sponsor Hammer.

    The Hammer Bronzen Schietspoel Tournament is the third stop of the 2011 European Bowling Tour and first of seven EBT "Silver" tournaments this season. The tournament will be held from Sunday Feb. 28 through Sunday March 6, 2011 at Dolfijn Bowling Tilburg, a 20-laner in Tilburg, Netherlands.

    Since the Viborg International in Viborg, Denmark originally scheduled for July 30-Aug. 7, 2011 has been cancelled, the 2011 European Bowling Tour consists of 21 tour stops in 17 countries including two Platinum, six Gold, seven Silver and six Satellite tournaments.

    The winner of a Platinum tournament receives 250 ranking points, the winner of a Gold tournament gets 150, the winner of a Silver tournament such as the Bronzen Schietspoel earns 100, and the winner of a Satellite tournament gets 50 ranking points.

    The total prize fund of the 2011 Tour exceeds one million Euro. The top 16 men and women in the EBT ranking will qualify for the fifth EBT Masters at Dream Bowl Palace in Unterföhring near Munich, Germany on April 30 and May 1, 2012.

    Participants in the 2011 Hammer Bronzen Schietspoel Tournament will compete for total prize money of 51.200 Euro or approximately US $70,390 with 8.000 Euro going to the winner, 6.000 to the runner-up and 4.000 and 2.000 to third and fourth place finishers, respectively.

    The Hammer Bronzen Schietspoel Tournament features dual lane condition. The left lane is dressed with the 46 feet long pattern (pdf file), the right lane with the 33 feet short pattern (pdf file).

    Qualifying runs through Saturday March 5 with the final qualifying Squad 14 scheduled for 6 p.m. CET. Qualifying concludes with the ultimate one-game Desperado Squad slated for 9.30 p.m. Women receive 8 pins handicap each game, a standard on the European Bowling Tour.

    A total of 48 players - the top 38 qualifiers, the top 4 from the Desperado Squad and the top six from a separate leaderboard of the squads conducted Feb. 27th through March first (Squads 1-4) will advance to the finals on Sunday, Feb. 14. The top 8 qualifiers will receive three byes and qualifiers 9-16 will earn two byes.

    The remaining 32 players will be divided into eight groups of four players each for the first round of two games scratch with the total pinfall determining the position. The top two players from each group will advance to the next round.

    The field will be cut to 32, 24, 16, eight and then four, who will determine the champion in the sixth and final round of two games.
