« PBA Stars head to N.Y. for PBA50 Johnny Petraglia BVL Open

Leading off the Xtra Frame coverage of the Petraglia BVL Open will be a pair of special “clash” events on Saturday night, starting at 6:45 p.m. ET. First will be a special four-person, low-ball-out “Clash of the Legends II” featuring PBA Hall of Famers Walter Ray Williams Jr., Amleto Monacelli, Pete Weber and Parker Bohn III.
Immediately after that clash, a “Clash of Military Heroes” Baker team event will be held to benefit BVL featuring Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force and Coast Guard veterans teaming up with the four “clash” players plus Petraglia.
Coverage of the PBA50 Johnny Petraglia BVL Open presented by Brunswick will include qualifying rounds from Farmingdale Lanes in Farmingdale, N.Y., Sunday and Monday, and the cashers round, match play rounds and the stepladder finals on Tuesday.
The PBA50 Tour will then take a break until the Suncoast PBA Senior U.S. Open May 29-June 3 in Las Vegas, followed by events in Fountain Valley and Brentwood, Calif., before returning to Las Vegas for the USBC Super Senior Classic and USBC Senior Masters June 16-29 at Sam’s Town.
PWBA coverage on Xtra Frame will continue with preliminary rounds of the Storm Sacramento Open May 14-15 and the first PWBA major of the year, the USBC Queens from the Orleans in Las Vegas May 20-26.
Cameron Weier (left) of Federal Way, Wash., defeated former Robert Morris-Illinois teammate Marshall Kent of Yakima, Wash., 226-175, to win the PBA Hickam AFB West/Northwest Open presented by Brunswick Sunday, wrapping up the PBA annual West and Northwest Region tripleheader series in Hawaii.
Weier, a second-year PBA member, picked up his second regional title along with the $2,000 first prize. In the semifinal round, Weier defeated Anthony Pepe of Elmhurst, N.Y., 244-201, while Kent defeated Jakob Butturff of Chandler, Ariz., 174-166, to set up the championship match.
Sam Maccarone (right) of Blackwood, N.J. swept Mike Byers of Charleston, S.C., 239-180, 247-218, in the best-of-three-game championship final to win his 15th QubicaAMF PBA Regional title in the PBA50 Canton South Open presented by Roto Grip at Cherokee Lanes in Canton, Ga., Saturday.
The Canton stop included a number of PBA50 Tour players who were on their way to the PBA50 Mooresville Ford Open presented by Columbia 300 and Miller High Life in Mooresville, N.C. Maccarone earned $2,000.
In best-of-three semifinal round, Maccarone ended Walter Ray Williams Jr.’s bid to win back-to-back PBA50 South Region titles by defeating the Oxford, Fla., resident, 242-171, 210-213, 257-221, while Byers eliminated defending Canton South champion Ron Mohr of Las Vegas, 227-182, 238-200.
Drew Klingler of Grand Rapids, Mich., defeated amateur Matt Gargano of Bloomington, Ill., 236-188, to win the PBA Victory Lanes Midwest Challenge at Victory Lanes in Kankakee, Ill., Sunday.
The win was Klingler’s first in PBA Regional competition. He earned $1,400 in addition to becoming eligible to enter the 2017 PBA Tournament of Champions.
Klingler defeated B.J. Satkowski of Jackson, Mich., 235-222, and Gargano eliminated amateur Matt Staninger of Highland, Ind., 257-187, in the semifinal round to set up the championship match.
The QubicaAMF PBA Regional Tour schedule for the May 13-15 weekend includes the Al Jones Memorial presented by Storm at Rockaway Lanes in Rockaway, N.J., and the Baldo Campana Memorial/Ohio Lottery Central/Midwest Open presented by Storm at Rebman Recreation in Lorain, Ohio.
The May 20-22 QubicaAMF PBA Regional Tour schedule includes the J.D. Producing/Star Strategies/Orrivilon Inc. Central Open presented by Hammer at Triway Lanes in Wooster, Ohio; the Planet Bowl Southwest Open in Oklahoma City, and a Northwest Region doubleheader – The Shock Top/Budweiser Open presented by US Foods and Brunswick plus the PBA50 Daffodil Bowl Open presented by Sunset Chevrolet and Brunswick in Puyallup, Wash. The Midwest Region will conduct a one-day Tony Grigat Allstate Midwest Open presented by Hammer on May 21 at Fox Bowl in Wheaton, Ill.
As PBA50 players head toward Las Vegas and the Suncoast PBA U.S. Senior Open presented by 900 Global May 29-June 3, they’ll have a couple of regional opportunities in Arizona – the 7th annual Lona King Saguaro West Open at Johnson Lanes in Sun City West, May 23-25, and the PBA50 Miller Lite Western Open at Starlite Lanes in Flagstaff May 25-27.
Over the May 27-29 Memorial Day weekend, QubicaAMF PBA Regional competition will include the Junction City Bowl Southwest/Midwest Open presented by MOTIV in Junction City, Kan. (which was originally scheduled for May 13-15); and the Colony Park Lanes East Challenge for non-title winners in York, Pa.
The third Xtra Frame PBA Tour event of the year, the Douwnums Waste Services Jonesboro PBA Open presented by Xtra Frame at Jonesboro Bowling Center in Jonesboro, Ark., June 3-5, kicks off the June calendar.
