    WBTLogo.jpgThe three-man and three-woman fields for the World Bowling Tour Men's and Women's Finals, presented by the PBA, have been confirmed as of the completion of the Rolltech PBA World Championship, the final event on the 2015 PBA International-World Bowling Tour schedule.

    The WBT finals will be contested as part of the USBC Masters in Indianapolis for telecast as part of an ESPN doubleheader on Sunday, Feb. 21. The WBT finals will air at 3 p.m. ET, following the live ESPN coverage of the Barbasol PBA Players Championship at 1 p.m.

    Leading the two-year rolling men's WBT points list is England's Dom Barrett. He will meet the winner of a semifinal match between No. 2 Jason Belmonte of Australia and No. 3 Mike Fagan of Fort Worth, Texas.

    Women's points leader Kelly Kulick of Union, N.J., will bowl against the winner of a match between No. 2 Danielle McEwan of Stony Point, N.Y., and No. 3 Liz Johnson of Cheektowaga, N.Y.

     


    Special Southwest Regional tournament to qualify players for Firelake TOC


    2016FireLakePBATournamentofChampionsLogo.jpgPBA Regional, PBA50, PWBA-PBA Women's Regional and/or PBA Women's Series champions will have an opportunity to compete for a minimum of 24 berths in the FireLake PBA Tournament of Champions during a special PBA TOC Southwest Open regional tournament immediately preceding the TOC in Shawnee, Okla.

    The 2016 FireLake PBA Tournament of Champions will include a field of 96 players, including up to 72 PBA Tour title holders based on the number of titles each player has won.

    An additional 24 PBA champions qualify during the special TOC Regional qualifying event Jan. 29-31. If fewer than 72 eligible PBA Tour champions accept their invitations to bowl in the TOC, those vacated spots also will be added to the regional qualifying field.

    The TOC will get underway with 96 players bowling eight-game qualifying squads at 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 2-3. After 16 games, the top 40 advance to an eight-game cashers' round at 10 a.m. Thursday. Based on 24-game pinfall totals, the top 24 will advance to eight-game round-robin match play rounds at 5 p.m. Thursday, and 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Friday. The top five players after 48 games will compete for the $50,000 first prize during Sunday's ESPN finals.

    The TOC week schedule also includes practice squads on Monday, Feb. 1, with the PBA Hall of Fame dinner and induction ceremonies at 6 p.m. at the Grand Casino Resort & Hotel when long-time ESPN announcer Denny Schreiner, former PBA South Region tournament manager Harry O'Neale and PBA50 Tour star Pete Couture will be honored.

    Saturday, Feb. 6, will be a day of pro-am squads when Oklahoma grassroots league bowlers will bowl alongside PBA stars for their own prizes. Australia's Jason Belmonte is the two-time defending Tournament of Champions winner.

    2016BarbasolPBAPlayersChampionshipLogo.jpgEntries for the TOC and the Feb. 15-21 Barbasol PBA Players Championship in Columbus, Ohio, are now open. Eligible PBA Tour champions who want to participate in the TOC must submit their entries by no later than Tuesday, Jan. 4. To enter, contact Mary von Krueger at [email protected] or 206-332-9688. The TOC and Players Championship entry fees are both $500.

    The TOC Southwest Open is open to non-members as well as PBA members, but non-members do not receive credit for a PBA title and they are not eligible to qualify for the TOC. If the winner is a member who has not previously won a PBA title, he/she will become TOC-eligible. Entries for the regional will be handled by PBA Southwest Region Tournament Manager Pete McCordic (email: [email protected]).

    TOC participants also are advised the Grand Casino Hotel & Resort in Shawnee has established a $99/night PBA rate for players and fans.     PBA Regional Update: Pete Thomas, Anthony Lavery-Spahr win Houston Doubles title


    Pete Thomas of Oklahoma City and Anthony Lavery-Spahr from Pasadena, Texas, captured the third annual PBA50/PBA Bowling Dynamix Houston Southwest Doubles Sunday at Houston's Emerald Bowl by 353 pins over Rick Minier and his partner, Shawn Maldonado, both of Houston.

    The winning duo pulled ahead of Minier and Maldonado in game five of the eight-game round robin match play finals, and then dominated as they won their last four matches while Minier and Maldonado failed to win any of their last four matches. Thomas and Lavery-Spahr finished with a 16-game 7,673 pinfall total to claim the $5,000 winners' check.

    PBA Regional competition resumes over the Jan. 8-10 weekend with the PBA Village Lanes Gloucester South Open in Gloucester, Va. The Jan. 15-17 weekend includes a PBA South Region doubleheader, the PBA50 and PBA Shore Lanes/Sill's Pro Shop Merritt Island Opens presented by Storm.

    The PBA Central Region returns to action in 2016 with the Don Vay Memorial PBA/PBA50 Central Doubles Classic presented by Ebonite at Legend Lanes in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.

    In addition to the Grand Casino Hotel & Resort TOC Southwest Open at FireLake Bowling Center in Shawnee, Okla., over Jan. 29-31 weekend, the PBA West and Northwest Regions will conduct the Sands Regency West/Northwest Challenge (for non-champions), Sands/Regency Winter Classic and PBA50 Sands/Regency Winter Classic – all presented by Storm – at the National Bowling Stadium in Reno. Also on the calendar is the PBA50 Tony Grigat Allstate Midwest Open presented by 900 Global at Arlington Lanes in Arlington Heights, Ill.

    Quick Notes from WSOB VII


    2015PBAWSOBVIILogo_small.jpgESPN coverage of the GEICO PBA World Series of Bowling VII will continue in the weeks ahead, including the finals of the Viper (Dec. 27), Chameleon (Jan. 3) and Scorpion Championships (Jan. 10), followed by the 2016 Mark Roth/Marshall Holman PBA Doubles Championship (Jan. 17) and the PBA Challenge Finals (Jan. 24).

    A couple of wrapup notes from WSOB VII:
    • 114 different players, out of a record field of 246 players (a 2:15 ration) cashed in at least one event.
    • A newly-announced $100,000 Ultimate Spare promotion, sponsored by Ultimate Bowling Products, went unclaimed…so far. The sponsorship offers a $100,000 bonus to the first player who converts the 7-10 split in a nationally-televised PBA Tour event. The offer will remain in effect throughout the 2016 PBA Tour season.
