The four-men team from Canada and the Mexican women won the gold medals in the team event at the 5th PABCON Senior Championships Friday at Sebelén bowling center in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Canadians Jack Guay, Ray Vervynck, Joe Ciach and John Chapman totaled 4998 pins and averaged 208.25 to win the men’s title. The team from the host country Dominican Republic took the silver medal with distant 4635 (193.13). The bronze medal went to Venezuela with 4630 (192.92).

Canada’s Joe Ciach earned his third gold medal of the Championships in all-events (total pinfall in singles, doubles, trios and team event) with 5202 total and an average of 216.75 for 24 games. Mario Garcia of Mexico took silver with 5020 and Ciach’s teammate John Chapman got bronze with 4998.

Teresa Piccini, Scarlett Padilla, Margarita Ramos and Veronica Berumen of Mexico averaged 182.54 to beat out Costa Rica for the women’s team gold by 10 pins, 4381 to 4371. Coasta Rica took the silver medal and Canada gor bronze with 4300.

Veronica Berumen led the 37 women in all-events (total pinfall in singles, doubles, mixed doubles and team event) with 4627 and an average of 192.79. It was her fourth gold medal in this Championships and her fifth in as many events.

Jill Friis and France Joubert of Canada got silver and bronze with 4586 and 4559, respectively.

Canada’s Bob Puttick, Jack Brace, Deb Linington and Marion Marco followed in the footprints of senior teams and captured the gold medal in the mixed team event at the 3rd PABCON Super Senior Championships which runs concurrently with the Senior Championships.

The Canadians toppled 2305 pins, an average of 181.50, to lead second place Mexico by 10 pins. The Mexicans got silver with 4346 (181.08) and Colombia took bronze with 4318 (179.92).

Jack Brace led the super senior men in all-events (total pinfall in singles, doubles, mixed doubles and mixed team event) with 24-game total 5043 and an average of 210.13. It was the fourth gold medal for Brace in this Championships.

Edgar Gomez of Colombia was 366 pins back in second place with 4677 with Bob Puttick in third place with 4639.

Fransuesa Sacre of Mexico averaged 184.83 to secure the gold medal in women’s all-events with 4436 total. Nora Delgado of Colombia took silver with 4307 and Silvia Juarez of Uruguay got bronze with 4274.

The PABCON Senior and Super Senior Championships conclude on Saturday with masters match play.

The 5th Pan American Bowling Confederation Senior Championships and the 3rd PABCON Super Senior Championships will take place from August 21-28, 2016, at Sebelén Bowling Center, a 22-laner in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

The seniors (maximum four men and four women per country; must be 50 years and older in the year of the championship) will bowl for medals in Singles, Doubles, Trios, Teams, All-Events and Masters, while the super seniors (maximum two men and two women age 60 and older) will compete for medals in Singles, Doubles, Mixed Doubles, Mixed Teams, All-Events and Masters.
