2009BWCZaraGiles2_small.jpgZara Giles (nee Glover, pictured left), England, set the pace in the first block of the women's qualifying in the 45th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup on Monday morning at Melaka International Bowling Center in Melaka, Malaysia. The multiple World and European champion felled 1805 pins over eight games, an average of 225.63. Evgenia Tsarkova, Russia, finisher her block with a huge 269, the highest game in the tournament thus far, to jump into second place with 1751 (218.88). The 66 women will return on Tuesday afternoon for the second qualifying block.

Real action starts on Monday morning with the first of three 8-game qualifying blocks. Bowlingdigital.com will be providing live coverage from Melaka. Bowlingdigital.com will also partner with the United States Bowling Congress to live stream the semifinals and finals of the 45th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup and portions of the earlier rounds if possible.

Bowlingdigital.com will be providing live coverage illustrated with high quality photos by Beat Grauwiler and Flavio Cuva's much-anticipated high definition videos. Bowlingdigital.com will also partner with USBC to live stream the semis and finals and portions of the earlier rounds if possible. Many of the 156 players from 91 countries have arrived in Melaka and tested the lanes on Saturday during the unofficial practice.

Two Malaysian Ministers visit Melaka International Bowling Center

2009BWCLogo_small.jpgQubicaAMF and the Melaka International Bowling Center were delighted to welcome not one but two Malaysian Ministers to the center on Friday, November 13th, in advance of the 45th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup. Datuk Ahmed Shabery Bin Cheek, the Malaysian Minister for Youth and Sports, took time out from his busy schedule to come to Melaka, look at the center and meet the players. Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister of Melaka, Datuk Seri Mohamed Ali Bin Mohamed Rustam, had also visited the center.

2009BWCLogo_small.jpgWith just three weeks to go before the start of the 45th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup in Melaka, Malaysia, 82 countries have named 81 men and 63 women, who will participate in the prestigious event to be led at Melaka International Bowling Center from Nov. 13-20. The record of 95 participating countries was set in Singapore in 2004, where 95 men and 73 women participated. The United States (men) and Singapore (women) are the defending champions.

2009BWCFlyer_small.jpg There is now just a month to go to the start of the 45th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup in Melaka, Malaysia, and the tournament could just be in for a record. The final qualification tournaments are taking place with the final names coming in and it looks as if the 2009 BWC might equal the record of 95 participating countries set in Singapore in 2004.As usual, QubicaAMF will be running a series of seminars alongside the tournament on lane care, pinspotters and pro shop operation in addition to the very successful bowling center management school.

Isabelle and Thierry Sacco to represent France in 45th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup

The duo already represented their country in the 2005 World Cup in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Isabelle, who his married with Thierry's brother Francois, also participated in 1998 (Kobe, Japan), 2000 (Lisbon, Portugal) and last year (Hermosillo, Mexico), while Thierry bowled in Caracas, Venezuela, in 2006.

Nepomuceno, the only 4-time BWC champion (1976, '80, '92, '96) defeated No. 3 Paulo Valdez and No. 1 Benshir Layoso in the men's stepladder finals. Top seeded Del Rosario topped Krizziah Tabora to earn the women's spot.

Both players led their division since the qualifying which was conducted two weeks ago and widened their lead during the Round of 16 and the round robin match play finals.

Manico, Vontobel to represent Switzerland at Bowling World Cup in Malaysia

2009CHBWCQualifierBigiManicoLarryVontobel_small.jpgBigi Manico from Zurich and Larry Vontobel (pictured left) from Lausanne took different routes to win the Swiss Bowling QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup Qualifier Sunday at bowling center BESECO in Rümikon near Winterthur. While Manico, the local favorite, cruised to victory in the women's division with a 406 pin buffer, Vontobel was down by 77 pins heading into the final match play game. Manico and Vontobel will represent Switzerland in the 45th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cupin Malaysia.

Melaka International Bowling Center open and looking forward to the Bowling World Cup

2009BWCFlyer_small.jpg2009BWCMelakaIBCLanes_small.jpgThe Melaka International Bowling Center was officially opened for business last month by the Chief Minister of Melaka and now all involved are looking forward to welcoming bowlers from around the world in mid-November for the 45th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup. As for the tournament, 90 countries have now indicated that they will be sending representatives. The qualifying rounds start on 16th November with the finals on 19th.
