Paulo Lopes (left) from Portugal is the surprise leader after Men Squad B has completed the first of four six-game qualifying blocks at the 43rd QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup in St. Petersburg, Russia. Lopes stunned the favorites when he finished his block with 257 and 279, the high game thus far, to shoot into the lead with 1385 pinfall total and an average of 230.83. Mohamed Al-Qubaisi, UAE, and Remy Ong, Singapore, who were atop the 43-player field until the final game, ended up in second and third place, respectively. 
The QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup was officially declared at Continent Bowling Center in St. Petersburg, Russia. For the first time in its 43-year history, the most prestigious amateur tournament in the sport of tenpin bowling, visits Russia. 84 men and 73 women representing 88 countries will participate in this year's event.

For nearly a dozen years, the United States has struggled in the men's division at the QubicaAMF World Cup, and Team USA's Bill Hoffman admits he feels some pressure heading into this year's event. Hoffman, a two-time U.S. Amateur champion and eight-time Team USA member from Columbus, Ohio, will face stiff competition from across the world at the 43rd World Cup, which begins Sunday in St. Petersburg, Russia.
USA's Lynda Barnes remains the only returning champion at the 43rd QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup at Continent Bowling Center in St. Petersburg, Russia but she will face stiff competition from all, including Indonesia's Putty Armein (5th last year) and Aumi Guerra of the Dominican Republic (8th last year). Final arrangements have been made for TV coverage of the event. The finals will be broadcast live on Russian channel RTR and will feature on Eurosport in two one-hour slots. 
Marcial Ovide and Sandra Torrents won the Spanish Bowling World Cup qualifier and will represent their country in the 43rd QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup at Continent Bowling Center in St. Petersburg, Russia, from November 3-11, 2007. Ovide dominated the men's division outaveraging his nearest competitor by more than 18 pins over 12 games. Torrents led the women's division by 109 pins. 
Beatrix Pesek (left) and Zoltan Skobrics (right), both members of the Hungarian national team. won the World Cup Qualifier in Szekesfehervar, Hungary en route to qualify for the 2007 QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup. The 43rd edition of this prestigious event will be held at Continent Bowling Center in St. Petersburg, Russia from November 3-11, 2007. Pesek's victory in the women's division marked her fifth consecutive win in this tournament. 
More and more countries have decided on their representatives for the 43rd QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup and another former champion will join Michael Schmidt of Canada and Lynda Barnes of the USA, both champions in 2005, in the starting line up: Peter Ljung (r.) of Sweden, the winner in Copenhagen in 1986. 
For the second time since the year 2004, Bigi Manico and Mathieu Bergès walked away the winners in the Swiss QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup Qualifier. Both players will represent Switzerland at the 43rd QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup at Continent Bowling Center in St. Petersburg, Russia, from November 3-11, 2007.
Nufar Herskovitch and Yahav Rabin captured the women's and men's Israeli National Individual Championship with a 2-1 victory in the best-of-three games finals at Bola Bowling in Holon, Israel on August 30th. Usually the champions book their tickets to the European Champions Cup, but not this year. "Israel cannot participate in the Europe Champions Cup in Luxemburg," Arie Fisher, president of the Israel Bowling Federation, stated. 
Last year, Ivonne and Thomas Gross, became the first couple to qualify for the World Ranking Masters. This year, the Austrians qualified to represent Austria in the 43rd QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup in St. Petersburg, Russia. Ivonne and Thomas won the women's and men's division at Salzburg Summer Tournament & BWC Qualifier to earn the coveted tickets to the BWC to be held from November 3 through 11, 2007.
A student who was left for dead following a brutal assault which horrified Ulster has made an amazing recovery and is now set to represent Northern Ireland in an international sporting competition. Grant Dugan (21), from Newtownards, has won a place in the Qubica AMF World TenPin Bowling Cup which is taking place in Russia this November. His sporting success comes just 19 months after he was beaten and stabbed seven times with a broken bottle in an unprovoked attack in Newtownards.

Marcelo Suartz and Roseli Santos won the XVI Brazil Open Cup QubicaAMF 2007 in Sao Paulo and will represent Brazil in the 43rd QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup in St. Petersburg, Russia, from November 3-11, 2007. Suartz (l.), 19, stopped Mario Farias' run in the decisive game, 174-158, en route to win the men's division. Santos (r.), 43, had dominated the women's division and topped Roberta Rodrigues, 214-164, to wrap up the title. 
Winnipeg tenpin bowler Michael Schmidt made some history this weekend in Edmonton but he had to get past a familiar face to do it. The 26-year-old chalked up his third consecutive Bowling World Cup National title by beating Winkler's Darren Klassen in the final. The top seed after the qualifying round, Schmidt will now represent Canada at the Qubica/AMF Bowling World Cup, Nov. 3-11 in St. Petersburg, Russia.
At a special ceremony in Moscow, Ron Wood QubicaAMF Vice-President, Europe, Middle East and Africa (left) and Alexander Gogolev, (right) President of the Federation of Sports Bowling Russia (FSBR) signed the official agreement which will bring the QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup to the city of St Petersburg, Russia.
