Squad 7 and 8 leaders Medveditskov, Krasavkin move into third and fourth place in Moscow

    Sergey Andreev holds onto the lead in Russian Open; cut for 32nd place is now 1261 (210.17)

    2011EBT15SergeyAndreev.jpgRussian bowlers continued to dominate the qualifying of the Russian Open Friday at Cosmik Belay Dacha in Moscow, Russia. Squad´7 and 8 leaders, Alexnder Medveditskov and Victor Krasavkin, moved into third and fourth place in the overall qualifying standings.

    Sergey Andreev (pictured left) continued to lead the field of 162 players - 126 men and 36 women - from nine countries - 17 from Belarus, China, Cyprus, Kazakhstan, Korea, Moldova, Serbia and Ukraine and 145 from Russia - with 1424 six game total and an average of 237.33.

    Roman Starchenkov remained in second place with 1402 and the higher last game than Medveditskov. Medveditskov, a member of the Russian national squad like Andreev and Krasavkin, led Squad 7 on Friday behind games of 215, 218, 238, 279, 222 and 230 (Starchenkov 245) to tie Starchenkov at 1402, a 233.67 average.

    Krasavkin also made run for the lead but had to settle for fourth place with 1391 including games of 268, 228, 205, 236, 227 and 228.

    Places 5-7 also belong to Russian bowlers, Andrey Suslov (5th; 1367), Alexander Deev (6th; 1360) and Dmitry Lapshinsky (7th; 1345). Eighth place Vladimir Maysky is the best non-Russian in the field with 1344.

    Daria Kovalova of Ukraine is one of three women above the cut line. Julia Polyanskaya, is the best of 36 women in 11th place with 1333, followed by Kovalova in 13th place with 1319 and Evgenia Smirnova in 27th with 1281.

    Joining Maysky and Kovalova as the only foreign bowlers in the top 32 were Alexander Panchenko, Kazakhstan (20th; 1301) and Alexander Kondratyev, Ukraine (31st; 1265).

    With the final qualifying day featuring four squads to go, Alexander Kondratyev holds the 32nd and last spot to advance with 1261 and an average of 210.17.

    Qualifying continues Saturday, Sept. 17 with Squads 9-12 scheduled for 9 a.m., 1, 5 and 9 p.m. Moscow time (CET +2) and concludes with the ultimate one-game Desperado Squad early Sunday morning.

    2011RussianOpenLogo.jpg The Russian Open, which will be held Sept. 13-18, 2011 at 30-lane Cosmik Belay Dacha in Russia's capital city Moscow, is the 15th stop of the 2011 European Bowling Tour and the fourth out of six EBT "Satellite" tournaments this season.

    The tournament offers total prize fund of 25.000 Euro with 5.500 Euro going to the winner and 3.800 Euro to the runner-up, while the third and fourth place finishers will receive 2.500 Euro and 2.000, respectively.

    Since the English Open has lost its EBT status, the 2011 European Bowling Tour consists of 20 tour stops in 16 countries including two Platinum, six Gold, six Silver and six Satellite tournaments.

    The top 50 men and the top 50 women in each event receive ranking points. The winner of a Platinum tournament receives 250 ranking points, the winner of a Gold tournament gets 150, the winner of a Silver tournament earns 100, and the winner of a Satellite tournament such as the Russian Open gets 50 ranking points.

    The top 16 men and the top 16 women at the end of the 2011 season qualify for the fifth EBT Masters to be held at Dream-Bowl Palace in Unterföhring near Munich, Germany on April 30 and May 1, 2012. The event will become the first EBT Masters to be contested on single lane condition.

    Qualifying of the Russian Open (six-game series, unlimited re-entries) runs from Tuesday, Sept. 13 through Saturday, Sept. 17 with the last Squad 12 scheduled for 9 p.m. local time (CET +2) and concludes with the Desperado Squad slated for 12.30 a.m. on Sunday morning. Women will receive 8 pins handicap each game throughout the entire event, a standard for women on the European Bowling Tour.

    A total of 36 players will advance to the finals on Sunday, Sept. 18 - the top 32 players from the overall qualifying standings plus the top 4 from the Desperado Squad. The top 8 qualifiers earn one bye and will be seeded first through 8th in Round Two.

    The other 28 players will bowl four games starting from scratch with the top 8 advancing to the second round seeded 9th through 16th.

    The remaining 16 players will determine the champion in single-elimination rounds with the two-game total to determine the winner. The highest seeded player bowls the lowest seeded player, the second highest seeded player bowls the second lowest seeded player, etc.

    The field will be trimmed to eight and then four players. The winners of the semifinal matches will bowl for the title and the 5.500 top prize while the losers will meet in a two-game roll-off for third and fourth place.
