Kelly Kulick to bare almost all in Oct. 7 issue of ESPN the Magazine

Kelly Kulick (pictured left), the only woman ever to win a PBA Tour title and a three-time PBA Tour exempt player, will be among a select group of athletes who will bare almost all in a "Body We Want" section of the Oct. 7 issue of ESPN the Magazine.
Kulick, the 2010 PBA Tournament of Champions winner, will appear along with gymnast Alicia Sacramone, snowboarder Gretchen Bleiler, soccer goalie Hope Solo, NBA star Blake Griffin, New York Mets shortstop Jose Reyes, St. Louis Rams running back Steven Jackson and several other athletes who posed nude – discreetly – for ESPN The Magazine's third annual "Body Issue."
All of the athletes will appear naked or barely-clothed (with private parts strategically covered), ESPN The Magazine editor-in-chief Chad Millman told USA Today. It will be the magazine's third "exploration and celebration of the athletic form," he noted.
Other female athletes baring their physiques will be WNBA competitor Sylvia Fowles, LPGA rookie Belen Mozo, track and field star Natasha Hastings, hockey player Julie Chu, tennis player Vera Zvonareva, surfer Steph Gilmore and tattooed roller derby player Suzy Hotrod.
The other male athletes will be speedskater Apolo Ohno, NHL player Ryan Kesler, UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, IndyCar racer Helio Castroneves, boxer Sergio Martinez, marathoner Ryan Hall and paralympian Jeremy Campbell.
"In the short time we've been doing it, this is an issue that has become pretty anticipated," says Millman. "In terms of the athletes we've attracted, we feel like the group is really strong."
For the second season in a row, Nathan Bohr (pictured) of Wichita, Kan., has moved into the ranks of PBA Tour exempt players, this time due to the withdrawal of Steven Black of Huntington Beach, Calif. Black, who qualified for his first PBA Tour exemption through the 2010 PBA Regional Players Invitational, requested and has been granted a deferral until the 2012-13 season.
Bohr, 31, is a former Team USA member, Wichita State University bowling star and winner of USBC's 1999 Chuck Hall Star of Tomorrow award. The 10-time PBA Regional title winner was the next player in line on the 2010-11 competition points list.
For the 2010-11 season, Bohr replaced Steve Harman of Indianapolis in the exempt player ranks after Harman resigned his exemption.
After a strong showing in the DSD Samho Korea Cup International Open in Busan, Korea, last week – led by PBA Tour star Tommy Jones' emotional victory over top qualifier Parker Bohn III - many of the PBA Tour stars traveled to Bangkok where they are competing in this week's PTT World Bowling Tour Thailand 2011 event.
The Thailand event, which ends Friday, is the next-to-last qualifying tournament in the 2011 World Bowling Tour series. The final qualifier is the Australian Masters Oct. 10-22 in Sydney.
At the conclusion of the Australian Masters, the top three men and top three women in WBT points will advance to the World Bowling Tour Finals presented by the PBA which will be contested at South Point in Las Vegas on Nov. 17 for delayed telecast on ESPN on Sunday, Dec. 4.

PBA Tour players bowling in Thailand include Koivuniemi, Belmonte, Fagan, MacLelland, Rash, Jones, Bohn, Duke, Page and Ryan Ciminelli.
Sean Swanson of Springfield, Mo., defeated David Williams Jr. of Omaha, Neb., 244-237, to win the 9th annual PBA Southwest Region Fort Smith Super Regional Open at Bowling World on Sunday, Sept. 25.
Swanson won seven of his 10 games in the single-elimination match play finals on his way to capturing his 18th PBA Regional title and the $5,000 first prize. Swanson escaped with the victory when Williams left a 7 pin in the 10th frame when he needed to strike for the win.
Joe Paluszek (center, with Parkway Lanes owner Martin Veniero, left, and GM Dennis Hoffman, right) of Bensalem, Pa., ended his five-year quest for his second PBA Regional title Sunday, defeating Stephen Dieter of Bowmansville, Pa., 286-208, to win the PBA East Region Parkway Lanes Open at Parkway Lanes in Elmwood Park, N.J. Paluszek earned $2,500 for the win.
Dale Eagle (right) of Frisco, Texas defeated Roy Buckley of Westerville, Ohio by 125 pins to win the PBA Central/Midwest Region's Mel Westrich/Delphos Recreation Center Senior Open on Sunday in Delphos, Ohio. Eagle finished with a 9-3 match play record and a total of 4,926 pins for 20 games, including match play bonus pins, for his first win of the year in the PBA Central Region and his 11th career PBA Regional title. He also earned $1,500.
An expanded schedule of Regional activity is on tap as the calendar heads into October. Over the Sept. 30-Oct. 2 weekend, the PBA Central, East and South Regions are combining for the Lewisburg Senior Classic at Greenbrier Bowling Center in Lewisburg, W.Va., while the Midwest and Southwest Regions are joining forces for a trio of events: the Barney's Open at Enterprise Park Lanes in Springfield, Mo., and two one-day Senior events at Junction City Bowl in Junction City, Kan. – the Senior Viper Open on Saturday and the Senior Cheetah Open on Sunday.
The Oct. 7-9 weekend includes the Midwest/Central Region Brunswick Zone-Hawthorn Senior Open sponsored by Allstate Insurance in Vernon Hills, Ill.; the Central Region Boss Plows/Mid-State Truck and Stonebrooke Rehabilitation Centre and Suites Open at Rose Bowl in New Castle, Ind.; the Southwest Region Young & Pratt Austin Open at Dart Bowl in Austin, Texas, and the West Region TKR General Contractor Open at Golden Pin Lanes in Tucson, Ariz.
PBA Regional competitors will also bowl for points through Feb. 26 to try to qualify for the 2012 Dick Weber PBA Playoffs. The top 16 points leaders in the PBA's East, South, Central, Midwest, Southwest and West/Northwest Regions will earn berths in the new Xtra Frame Tour event which will be held March 30-April 1 at Woodland Bowl in Indianapolis.
All first-time PBA Regional title winners also become eligible for the season-ending PBA Tournament of Champions.

Remo Picchietti, a USBC Hall of Famer and one of the world's leading authorities on bowling lane maintenance, died on Sept. 26 after a lengthy illness. He was 81. The former mayor of Bannockburn, Ill., was chairman of the board and president of DBA Products Co. before it was sold to Brunswick.
Picchietti never intended to play a prominent part in bowling. As a law school graduate, he planned for a future in law and politics, but when his father died suddenly in 1959, Picchietti took the helm of the family business – founded as Deerfield Bowling Academy in the early 1940s - and never looked back. DBA researched, developed and sold every imaginable lane maintenance product, and Picchietti became a leading authority on the subject, traveling the world to teach proprietors and coaches the intricacies of lane maintenance.
Picchietti also volunteered his services to the sport in a variety of roles: as president of the National Bowling Council, Billiard & Bowling Institute of America, National Association of Independent Resurfacers, Tech-Ed Publishing Company and the International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame. And he found time to serve his community as a city judge, councilman and, later, 16 years as mayor.

Strong PBA contingent competing for World Bowling Tour title in Thailand
