20111121GGWright.jpg Long time Bowling Writers Association of America member Gudrun Gerda (GG) Wright, 69, of Killeen, Texas passed away Monday afternoon, November 21. After many years of battling various complications after surgery to remove a brain tumor, GG's husband Don tells us she died peacefully in her sleep.

Don's "Sweetie' as he always called her, was an accomplished photographer who often accompanied her writer husband to BWAA and other bowling functions and events. Her photos, such as the ones she took at the Billy Welu induction ceremony into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame, appeared in many publications, including the Southwest Bowling News, The Gulf Coast Bowling News, and the Killeen Daily Herald.

In her native Germany before marrying American G.I. Don and moving to the United States, she was a world-class swimmer, winning the German Championships with her Mainz Swim Team in 1958.

GG was also an avid bowler and selfless volunteer. She competed in the WIBC National Championships for 26 consecutive years and in the Texas State Tournament for 29 years. She served as a director of the Killeen-Fort Hood USBC Association for 10 years and was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2005.

She was a BWAA member, and also a member of the Southern Bowling Writers Association.

Survivors include her husband Don, two sons, Keith and Mark in Florida and Ohio, daughter Vikki Wright John of Henrietta, Texas; nine grandchildren, one great-grandson, and brothers, Michael and Wolfgang in Germany.

Condolences for the family may be sent to Don Wright, 1505 Meadow Spur, Killeen, Texas 76549 or email [email protected].
