Tobias Börding leads third qualifying squad at Brunswick Euro Challenge in Munich

    German rolls 1427 series to move into second place in the overall standings; Finn Mika Koivuniemi paces the 99-player field with 1453; cut for 52nd place is 1212 (202 average)

    ImageImageTobias Börding (pictured left) of Germany beat out PBA super stars Mika Koivuniemi and Sean Rash for the top spot in the third qualifying Squad Wednesday afternoon at Dream-Bowl Palace in Munich, Germany, en route to move into second place in the overall standings at the 10th Brunswick Euro Challenge.

    Börding had games of 279, 243, 232, 226, 238 and 209 for 1427 total and an average of 237.83 for six games. Koivuniemi (right), a Finnish native who lives in the United States, was four pins behind with 1423. The two-time PBA Player of the Year continued to lead the field of 99 players from 19 countries with 1453 (242.17).

    ImageImageYoan Alix of France slipped one place to third with 1416 and was followed by reigning PBA Player of the Year Rash, who improved his previous high series by ten pins to sit in fourth place with 1405.

    Former German international Michael Holzapfel (left) hit 1400 on the nose to overtake fourth place. His compatriot Kai Günther, who led the second squad on Tuesday with 1391 fell to sixth place.

    Singaporean star, Jazreel Tan (right), is the best of 13 women in the field so far in seventh place with 1391 including eight pins handicap each game, due to the lower last game than Günther.

    ImageImageRounding out the top eight was Austrian Michael Loos (pictured left with fellow countryman Daniel Hahn, left), who totaled 1376. The top 8 of a separate leaderboard of the squads conducted March 19 & 20, will be automatically qualified for Sunday's finals in case they do not finish in the top 52.

    Places 9 and 10 belong to former German national team members Dirk Dreyer (right) and Robert Woelki with 1371 and 1369. Berny Stöckl of Germany fell to 11th place with 1369 and was followed by Indonesian star, Tannya Roumimper (below right), in 12th place with 1367. The top 12 at the end of the qualifying will bypass the first round of the finals.

    Qualifying continues Wednesday evening with the fourth squad at 8 p.m. Central European Time.

    2013BECLogo.jpg ImageThe Brunswick Euro Challenge is the fourth tournament on the 2013 European Bowling Tour schedule and one of only two "Platinum" events this season, the EBT's highest tournament category. The BEC is also the seventh stop of the World Bowling Tour and the second of three WBT events in Europe in 2013.

    For the first time in 10 years of BEC competition, Europe's richest tournament will be contested at Europe's biggest bowling center, 52-lane Dream-Bowl Palace in Unterföhring near Munich, Germany.

    The 106.000 Euro tournament, which runs from March 19-24, offers a 15.000 Euro top prize and a PBA International title if won by a PBA member.
