Larsen, Adolfsson, Hellström add their names to the leaderboard in Berlin

    Swedes lead Thursday's qualifying quads 9, 10 and 11 to move into the top 8 at QubicaAMF German Open 2013; Germany's Michaela Göbel-Janka holds on to the lead with 1388; cut for 40th place is 1279 (213.71)

    2013EBT05MartinLarsen.jpg2013EBT05MichaelaGobelJanka.jpgSwedish bowlers dominated Thursday's qualifying of the QubicaAMF German Open 2013 at A10 Bowling in Berlin, Germany, winning all three squads en route to move into the top 8 in the overall standings which guarantees two byes for the finals.

    PBA touring pro Martin Larsen (pictured left), a multiple World and European champion, was the best player on Thursday posting games of 254, 191, 214, 191, 278 and 243 in Squad 9 to jump into third place with 1371 and an average of 228.50.

    Michaela Göbel-Janka (right) of Germany continued to lead the field of 257 players from 20 countries with 1388 total including eight pins women's handicap per game. George Stefanidis of Greece remained in second place with 1375.

Adolfsson (left) led Squad 10 with 1356 total including a high game of 255, while Hellström (right), a two-time European Bowling Tour titlist, led Squad 11 on Thursday night with 1353 including a pair of 240s. The Swedes overtook seventh and eight's place, respectively.

    Each squad leader receives a 400 Euro bonus. The winner of the qualifying will get a 1.000 Euro bonus.

    Fourth place belonged to German national team member Marco Baade with 1365 followed by Pontus Andersson of Sweden with 1361 and Squad 1 leader Lisa Kabowski of Germany with 1312.

    The top three women at the end of the qualifying will receive a bonus of 1.000, 600 and 400 Euro, resp.

    With the final four squads to go on Saturday, Michael Grabovac of Germany holds the 40th and last place to advance to Sunday's finals with 1279 an average of 213.17.

    Qualifying continues Saturday, April 27, with Squads 12-15 at 8 a.m., noon, 4 and 8 p.m. local time (CEST) and concludes with the Desperado Squad slated for 11.30 p.m.

    The QubicaAMF German Open 2013 is the fifth stop of the 2013 European Bowling Tour and the second out of six EBT "Gold" events this season. The tournament will be held from Saturday, April 20 through Sunday, April 28, 2013 at A10 Bowling, a 32-laner in Berlin, Germany.

    Players will compete for total prize money of 60.000 Euro with 7.000 Euro going to the winner, 4.000 Euro to the runner-up and 2.400 apiece to the third and fourth place finishers.

    Qualifying (6 games, unlimited re-entries) runs through Saturday, April 27, with the final Squad 15 slated for 8.00 p.m. CEST. Qualifying concludes with the one-game Desperado Squad scheduled for 11.30 p.m. Women receive 8 pins handicap each game, a standard for women on the European Bowling Tour.

    The tournament will be contested on a 39 ft. Oil Pattern (pdf file) with 25.2ml volume oil total.

    The top 40 players from the overall qualifying standings plus the top 4 of Squad 3 (not among the top 40) and the top 4 of the Desperado Squad will advance to the finals on Sunday, April 28. The top eight qualifiers enjoy a two-round bye while qualifiers 9-16 get a first-round bye.

    The first three rounds of the finals each consist of four games scratch which will trim the field to 28, 16 and then eight players, who will bowl for the title in single-elimination match play finals with the two-game total determining the winner.

    In each match, the highest seeded player will meet the lowest seeded player, the second-highest seeded player will meet the second-lowest seeded player, etc.

    2013EBTLogo_small.jpg The 2013 European Bowling Tour consists of 19 tournaments in 13 countries including two Platinum, six Gold, four Silver and seven Satellite events.

    The top 50 men and the top 50 women in each event receive ranking points. The winner of a Platinum tournament receives 250 ranking points, the winner of a Gold tournament such as the QubicaAMF German Open 2013 gets 150, the winner of a Silver tournament earns 100, and the winner of a Satellite tournament gets 50 ranking points.

    The top 12 men and the top 12 women at the end of the 2013 season qualify for the seventh EBT Masters to be held March 3, 2014 at Dolfijn Bowling in Tilburg, Netherlands immediately following the EBT Hammer Bronzen Schietspoel Tournament 2014.

    At the end of the qualifying, the top 40 plus the top four players from Squad 3 and the top four of the Desperado Squad will advance to the finals. The top 8 qualifiers will receive two byes and qualifiers 9-16 will get one bye.
