71-year-old handicap bowler wins $10,000 in inaugural Amateur Bowler's Championship

Lito de la Cruz (pictured), 71 year old handicap bowler from Las Vegas, Nev., defeated another local bowler, Roland Bisnar of Henderson, Nev., 213-180, to win the inaugural Amateur Bowler's Championship at Sunset Station in Las Vegas.
De la Cruz earned the $10,000 top prize while Bisnar pocketed $5,000 for his second place finish. Finishing third and fourth, with each earning $2,500 were Ken Simpson of Shirley, N.Y., and Donald Eubanks of Elmsford, N.Y.
The Amateur Bowler's Championship (ABC) attracted bowlers from all over the world. Australia, Germany and the United States were represented in the 32-person finals All finalists were paid a minimum of $1,000. The finals paid out a total of $57,000.
In addition to the main tournament there were several bonus events that created more $1,000 winners. Courtney Harris from New York emerged as the Thursday Early Bird champion and teamed with fellow New Yorker Denis Cury to win the Saturday Early Bird Doubles.
The Friday Early Bird champion was Bob Godden from Las Vegas, while Henry Murphy from Henderson, Nev., was the Sweeper champion.
The ABC featured an optional scratch tournament for bowlers age 55 & under and 56 & over. The winner of the 55 & under tournament was Rick Miller of Lincoln, Neb., earning $600 and the 56 & over senior champion was Rodney Tramp of Porterville, Calif., earning $300. Total payout for the scratch events was $2,000.
The ABC was hosted by Sunset Station Strike Zone and sponsored by Brunswick and Kegel. The event attracted over 500 entries and paid out a total of $85,000. Almost 40% of the field cashed for $1,000 or more. For more information, please click here.
