Swedish national team member Peter Ljung (left) defeated American Tim Mack (right), 236-180, to win the Olympia Tournament at Olympia Bowling in Helsingborg, Sweden, and the 10.000 Euro first prize.
In the semi-finals, Ljung sidelined team mate Martin Larsen, 226-194, while Mack eliminated Lasse Lintilä, Finland, 176-152.
Mack earned 5.000 Euro for second. Larsen and Lintilä received 2.500 Euro apiece for third and fourth place.

Norwegian Petter Hansen, proud owner of a 30.000 Euro motor boat since the Evje International a week ago, rolled the fifth 300 game of the Olympia Tournament in Helsingborg, Sweden, and the 29th of his career to gain the No. 9 seed for the Single-elimination finals Round of 32.
Hansen felled 1488 in Round 1 to lead the qualifying finishers 9-48 with a 248,00 average. Two more players cracked the 1400-bar with Pasi Uotila, Finland, in second at 1405, and Tobias Karlsson, Sweden, third, 1403.
Among the 24 players who made the cut to meet the top eight qualifiers were Americans Tim Mack (9th, 1357) and Bill Hoffman (14th, 1347) as well as European ranking leader Paul Moor, England (11th, 1355) .
Anna Mattsson-Baard was the sole woman, who survived the round with 1300 pinfall total including 48 pins handicap. The Swede will battle it out with No. 1 seed Kamilla Kjeldsen for the women's ranking winner.
Patrick Backe, who showed an outstanding performance last night to qualify for the finals, has been bowling well but lady luck hasn't been on his side this time. Norwegian Mads Sandbaekken beat out Back for the 24th and final spot by three pin, 1282 to 1279.
Former Swedish national team member Patrick Backe waited until the 12th and final squad to qualify for the top 48 players who advanced to the finals in the Olympia Tournament at Backe's Olympia Bowling in Helsingborg, Sweden.
When the 3-time World Champion started his final effort, Magnus Andersson was the 'man on the bubble' with 1351 six-game total or an average of 225,17. Backe had a disastrous start with 162 and 167 but rebounded with 246, 266 and 216. Needing a 295 in his final game, the 36-year-old right-hander fired the fourth perfect game of the tournament en route to make the cut with 1357 in 42nd place.

Danish Masters champion Thomas Gross (left) led the penultimate squad with 1403, good enough for … 20th place in the high-scoring event. European ranking leader and runner-up in Denmark, Paul Moor (right), England, was close behind with 1384 to make the cut in 33rd position.
The final squad was led by Israel's Or Aviram (left) and Svein Roger Olsen, Norway, who rolled 1400 each to land in 21st and 22nd place.
Andersson beat out Nina Flack (right), both of Sweden, for the 48th and final spot with 1351 thanks to the higher last game (202-195).
Players seeded 9-48 will bowl 6 games starting from scratch to cut to the top 24 for the single elimination finals. Those 24 will be seeded 9-32 and meet the top 8 from the qualifying. Best-of-five games match play will trim the field from 32 to 16, to eight, then to four. The semi-finals and the final will be decided in one game.

Former women's European Ranking champion Kamilla Kjeldsen, Denmark, averaged 247 for her six games to shoot into the lead in the Olympia Tournament in Helsingborg, Sweden. Kjeldsen finished with a 275-game for 1530 including 48 pins handicap (standard on the European Bowling Tour) to overtake previous leader Tore Torgersen (1523), Norway, by seven pins.
Third-placed Stuart Williams is the third player with a 1500-plus series with 1513. Sixteen players have rolled a 1400-plus series thus far. Swedes Pär Gustavsson and Robert Andersson sit in fourth and fifth place with 1454 and 1450. Sixth place belongs to 4-time European champion Petteri Salonen, Finland, with 1447. Dane Jesper Agerbo is seventh with 1435.
Osku Palermaa, Finland, cracked the top 8 with 1433 or an average of 238,83. The top eight players will bypass the first Round of the finals and will be seeded 1-8 into the Round of 32 in the best-of-five games single-elimination match play finals.

Stuart Williams (left), England, and Pär Gustavsson, Sweden, rolled big scores on Friday to shoot into second and third position in the qualifying at the Olympia Tournament in Helsingborg, Sweden.
Williams, currently the No. 2 in the European rankings, had high games of 267 and 268 and a low game of 235 in Squad 8 to become the second player to crack the 1500-bar with 1513, an average of 252,17 for six games.
Tore Torgersen of Norway continued to lead with 1523.
Gustavsson started his series with games of 277 and 299 en route to finish with 1454 pinfall total and an average of 242,13, good enough for third place. With the final four squads to go on Saturday, the cut to the top eight, who will earn one bye in the finals, is 1424 (237,33).

Tore Torgersen, who was exempt for the last two seasons on the PBA, broke the qualifying record set by PBA Player of the Year, Mika Koivuniemi, in 2003 (1516) to shoot into the lead in the Olympia Tournament at Olympia Bowling in Helsingborg, Sweden.
The Norwegian started the fourth qualifying squad with 240, 248, 255 and 235, then rolled 12 consecutive strikes for the second perfecto of the tournament (Finn Matti Virta posted the first) and finished his six-game block with 245 for an outstanding 1523 total or an average of 253,83.
"I haven't bowled much during the summer, Torgersen said."Only shorts, crab fish, and some beers in our summer cottage for weeks, and of course I spend a lot of time with Tone (Tore and Linda Haglund's newborn baby)."
Torgersen, who checked in with a 1238 after his first entry, improved his score by 285 pins. "My first squad in Helsingborg wasn't too good, but today I drilled a Hammer Black Widow and it worked out perfectly: Only strikes and nines all the time. I have been so close to win this tournament so many times and I hope that it is my turn this year."
Second place in the squad belonged to another familiar face in international bowling, Tim Mack of the United States, who is still on his long way to recover from a severe shoulder injury. Mack posted a 1423 series including high games of 266 and 273.
"I played well in Bahrain and I had some real good results in Las Vegas (at the megabuck tournaments). I improve all the time and I have the feeling that I play my bowling okay right now. I still have some way to go and I still play with a 14 pound ball. However, I'm satisfied with the 1421 and that I will be in the final here in Helsingborg on Sunday."
In the fifth and last squad on Thursday, Mikael Kanold of Sweden started with a 299 and was going for 1500 for the first five games. Needing a 230 in the final game to become the second player to crack the 1500-bar and a 254 to overtake Torgersen, Kanold suffered a 158 game to settle for fourth place with 1428. The cut for the top 8 is currently 1405 shot by Mathias Arup, Sweden, in squad 4.

Robert Andersson continued to lead in the Olympia Tournament after the third of twelve qualifying squads at Olympia Bowling in Helsingborg, Sweden. The Swedish national team member has posted a 1450 six-game total in Squad 1. Dane Jesper Agerbo remained in second place at 1435.
Rounding out the top 8, who will seeded into the match play Round of 32, are Tony Fransson, Tomas Leandersson, Martin Blixt, Peter Ljung and the top female bowler in the field, Anna Mattsson-Baard, all from Sweden.
Christer Danielsson (left) rolled a 1350 series including a 278-game to lead Squad 3 on Wednesday and to move into 12th place overall. Mattias Möller, both from Sweden, was second with 1345 due to a 189 final game. Möller currently sits in 13th place.
Matti Virta (right) from Finland set the highlight of the day when he fired the first 300-game of the tournament in his sixth game. However, his 1340 pinfall total may not be enough to make the first cut which is expected to be 1365 or higher by the local experts.

In the second squad on Tuesday, 17-year-old Marcus Berndt (right), son of former European Champions Yvonne and Ernst Berndt, finished with 268 and 279 to jump into third place with 1424 and an average of 237,33.
"I couldn't handle the short and long oil during the World Youth Championships in Berlin some weeks ago, because we don't play any tournaments of that kind here in Europe. In Asia they do it all the time", he said.

The second squad was nicknamed "Dream 17" as it was special squad for players up to 17 years of age. Two-time U.S. National Amateur champion Bill Hoffman and Niklas Linderholm, Sweden, of Team Pergamon gave instructions before the squad. They did some education in reading the lanes, talked about different oil patterns and how to solve problems when the lanes change during the play.

The Olympia Tournament at Olympia Bowling in Helsingborg, Sweden, is the 14th out of 20 stops of the European Bowling Tour and one its 13 'majors'. The 'Early Bird' squad on Monday nearly 206 overall with Robert Andersson leading the way with 1450 and an average of 241,67.
Andersson, who is a member of the Swedish national team which targets to defend the team title at the inaugural Men's World Championships in Busan, Korea, later this month, rolled games of 234, 228, 258, 248, 279 and 203.
"It could have been higher but I could not get lined up properly in the last game", he said afterwards.
Dane Jesper Agerbo was second with 1435 including three 250-plus games. Lefty Tony Fransson was third with 1391 followed by defending champion Tomas Leandersson, who is fourth with 1389 despite two sup-par games. Close behind are Martin Blixt and Peter Ljung with 1387 and 1386 in fifth and sixth place.
Anna Mattsson-Baard is the top ranked women in the field with 1377 including the 8 pins handicap each game that all women receive in EBT tournaments. The champion from 2003 and 2004, Martin Larsen and Mathias Årup, all from Sweden, are in 8th and 16th position with 1373 and 1295, resp.

Petter Hansen shoots fifth perfecto in Helsingborg
Norwegian Petter Hansen, proud owner of a 30.000 Euro motor boat since the Evje International a week ago, rolled the fifth 300 game of the Olympia Tournament in Helsingborg, Sweden, and the 29th of his career to gain the No. 9 seed for the Single-elimination finals Round of 32. Hansen felled 1488 in Round 1 to lead the qualifying finishers 9-48 with a 248,00 average. Two more players cracked the 1400-bar with Pasi Uotila, Finland, in second at 1405, and Tobias Karlsson, Sweden, third, 1403.
Among the 24 players who made the cut to meet the top eight qualifiers were Americans Tim Mack (9th, 1357) and Bill Hoffman (14th, 1347) as well as European ranking leader Paul Moor, England (11th, 1355) .
Anna Mattsson-Baard was the sole woman, who survived the round with 1300 pinfall total including 48 pins handicap. The Swede will battle it out with No. 1 seed Kamilla Kjeldsen for the women's ranking winner. Patrick Backe, who showed an outstanding performance last night to qualify for the finals, has been bowling well but lady luck hasn't been on his side this time. Norwegian Mads Sandbaekken beat out Back for the 24th and final spot by three pin, 1282 to 1279.

Backe saves the best until the end to qualify for finals in Olympia Tournament
Former Swedish national team member Patrick Backe waited until the 12th and final squad to qualify for the top 48 players who advanced to the finals in the Olympia Tournament at Backe's Olympia Bowling in Helsingborg, Sweden. When the 3-time World Champion started his final effort, Magnus Andersson was the 'man on the bubble' with 1351 six-game total or an average of 225,17. Backe had a disastrous start with 162 and 167 but rebounded with 246, 266 and 216. Needing a 295 in his final game, the 36-year-old right-hander fired the fourth perfect game of the tournament en route to make the cut with 1357 in 42nd place.
2-time women's European Ranking champion Kamilla Kjeldsen (left), Denmark, won the preliminaries with 1530 six-game total including 48 pins handicap (standard on the European Bowling Tour). Norwegian Tore Torgersen (right) posted the highest scratch total of 1523, an average of 253,83, including a 300 game, to sit in second place. Third-placed Stuart Williams (left) was the only other player to reach the 1500-plateau with 1513. Rounding out the top 8 were Swedes Pär Gustavsson and Robert Andersson (right) with 1454 and 1450, Petteri Salonen, Finland, with 1447, Dane Jesper Agerbo, 1435, and Osku Palermaa, Finland, 1433. The top eight players will bypass the first Round of the finals and will be seeded 1-8 into the Round of 32 in the best-of-five games single-elimination match play finals.
Danish Masters champion Thomas Gross (left) led the penultimate squad with 1403, good enough for … 20th place in the high-scoring event. European ranking leader and runner-up in Denmark, Paul Moor (right), England, was close behind with 1384 to make the cut in 33rd position. The final squad was led by Israel's Or Aviram (left) and Svein Roger Olsen, Norway, who rolled 1400 each to land in 21st and 22nd place. Andersson beat out Nina Flack (right), both of Sweden, for the 48th and final spot with 1351 thanks to the higher last game (202-195).
Players seeded 9-48 will bowl 6 games starting from scratch to cut to the top 24 for the single elimination finals. Those 24 will be seeded 9-32 and meet the top 8 from the qualifying. Best-of-five games match play will trim the field from 32 to 16, to eight, then to four. The semi-finals and the final will be decided in one game.
The Olympia Tournament is the 14th stop of the European Bowling Tour and one its "majors". The tournament offers total prize fund of 54.000 Euro or approx. USD 68,500. The winner will walk away with the 10.000 Euro top prize.

Kjeldsen leads the pack in Olympia Tournament
Former women's European Ranking champion Kamilla Kjeldsen, Denmark, averaged 247 for her six games to shoot into the lead in the Olympia Tournament in Helsingborg, Sweden. Kjeldsen finished with a 275-game for 1530 including 48 pins handicap (standard on the European Bowling Tour) to overtake previous leader Tore Torgersen (1523), Norway, by seven pins. Third-placed Stuart Williams is the third player with a 1500-plus series with 1513. Sixteen players have rolled a 1400-plus series thus far. Swedes Pär Gustavsson and Robert Andersson sit in fourth and fifth place with 1454 and 1450. Sixth place belongs to 4-time European champion Petteri Salonen, Finland, with 1447. Dane Jesper Agerbo is seventh with 1435.
Osku Palermaa, Finland, cracked the top 8 with 1433 or an average of 238,83. The top eight players will bypass the first Round of the finals and will be seeded 1-8 into the Round of 32 in the best-of-five games single-elimination match play finals.
James Gruffman (right) set a highlight in Squad 10 when he started with a 300 game, the third of the tournament. Gruffman totaled 1414, good enough for … 14th place. Williams and Gustavsson shoot into 2nd and 3rd in Helsingborg
Stuart Williams (left), England, and Pär Gustavsson, Sweden, rolled big scores on Friday to shoot into second and third position in the qualifying at the Olympia Tournament in Helsingborg, Sweden. Williams, currently the No. 2 in the European rankings, had high games of 267 and 268 and a low game of 235 in Squad 8 to become the second player to crack the 1500-bar with 1513, an average of 252,17 for six games.
Tore Torgersen of Norway continued to lead with 1523.
Gustavsson started his series with games of 277 and 299 en route to finish with 1454 pinfall total and an average of 242,13, good enough for third place. With the final four squads to go on Saturday, the cut to the top eight, who will earn one bye in the finals, is 1424 (237,33).

Torgersen sets new tournament record to shoot into lead in Helsingborg
Tore Torgersen, who was exempt for the last two seasons on the PBA, broke the qualifying record set by PBA Player of the Year, Mika Koivuniemi, in 2003 (1516) to shoot into the lead in the Olympia Tournament at Olympia Bowling in Helsingborg, Sweden. The Norwegian started the fourth qualifying squad with 240, 248, 255 and 235, then rolled 12 consecutive strikes for the second perfecto of the tournament (Finn Matti Virta posted the first) and finished his six-game block with 245 for an outstanding 1523 total or an average of 253,83.
"I haven't bowled much during the summer, Torgersen said."Only shorts, crab fish, and some beers in our summer cottage for weeks, and of course I spend a lot of time with Tone (Tore and Linda Haglund's newborn baby)."
Torgersen, who checked in with a 1238 after his first entry, improved his score by 285 pins. "My first squad in Helsingborg wasn't too good, but today I drilled a Hammer Black Widow and it worked out perfectly: Only strikes and nines all the time. I have been so close to win this tournament so many times and I hope that it is my turn this year."
Second place in the squad belonged to another familiar face in international bowling, Tim Mack of the United States, who is still on his long way to recover from a severe shoulder injury. Mack posted a 1423 series including high games of 266 and 273. "I played well in Bahrain and I had some real good results in Las Vegas (at the megabuck tournaments). I improve all the time and I have the feeling that I play my bowling okay right now. I still have some way to go and I still play with a 14 pound ball. However, I'm satisfied with the 1421 and that I will be in the final here in Helsingborg on Sunday."
In the fifth and last squad on Thursday, Mikael Kanold of Sweden started with a 299 and was going for 1500 for the first five games. Needing a 230 in the final game to become the second player to crack the 1500-bar and a 254 to overtake Torgersen, Kanold suffered a 158 game to settle for fourth place with 1428. Andersson holds onto the lead in Olympia Tournament
Robert Andersson continued to lead in the Olympia Tournament after the third of twelve qualifying squads at Olympia Bowling in Helsingborg, Sweden. The Swedish national team member has posted a 1450 six-game total in Squad 1. Dane Jesper Agerbo remained in second place at 1435. Rounding out the top 8, who will seeded into the match play Round of 32, are Tony Fransson, Tomas Leandersson, Martin Blixt, Peter Ljung and the top female bowler in the field, Anna Mattsson-Baard, all from Sweden.
Christer Danielsson (left) rolled a 1350 series including a 278-game to lead Squad 3 on Wednesday and to move into 12th place overall. Mattias Möller, both from Sweden, was second with 1345 due to a 189 final game. Möller currently sits in 13th place. Matti Virta (right) from Finland set the highlight of the day when he fired the first 300-game of the tournament in his sixth game. However, his 1340 pinfall total may not be enough to make the first cut which is expected to be 1365 or higher by the local experts. Andersson leads Olympia Tournament after Day One Qualifying

In the second squad on Tuesday, 17-year-old Marcus Berndt (right), son of former European Champions Yvonne and Ernst Berndt, finished with 268 and 279 to jump into third place with 1424 and an average of 237,33. "I couldn't handle the short and long oil during the World Youth Championships in Berlin some weeks ago, because we don't play any tournaments of that kind here in Europe. In Asia they do it all the time", he said.
Fresh from winning a 30.000 Euro motor boat in the Evje International, Norwegian top player Petter Hansen (left) rolled a 1356 series to land in 11th place. 2005 QubicaAMF World Cup runner-up Or Aviram (right), Israel, finished the second squad in third position with 1331, good enough for 13th place overall. The second squad was nicknamed "Dream 17" as it was special squad for players up to 17 years of age. Two-time U.S. National Amateur champion Bill Hoffman and Niklas Linderholm, Sweden, of Team Pergamon gave instructions before the squad. Robert Andersson scores big in the 'Early Bird' squad in Olympia Tournament
The Olympia Tournament at Olympia Bowling in Helsingborg, Sweden, is the 14th out of 20 stops of the European Bowling Tour and one its 13 'majors'. The 'Early Bird' squad on Monday nearly 206 overall with Robert Andersson leading the way with 1450 and an average of 241,67. Andersson, who is a member of the Swedish national team which targets to defend the team title at the inaugural Men's World Championships in Busan, Korea, later this month, rolled games of 234, 228, 258, 248, 279 and 203.
"It could have been higher but I could not get lined up properly in the last game", he said afterwards.
Dane Jesper Agerbo was second with 1435 including three 250-plus games. Lefty Tony Fransson was third with 1391 followed by defending champion Tomas Leandersson, who is fourth with 1389 despite two sup-par games. Close behind are Martin Blixt and Peter Ljung with 1387 and 1386 in fifth and sixth place.
Anna Mattsson-Baard is the top ranked women in the field with 1377 including the 8 pins handicap each game that all women receive in EBT tournaments. The champion from 2003 and 2004, Martin Larsen and Mathias Årup, all from Sweden, are in 8th and 16th position with 1373 and 1295, resp.
