Jason Belmonte historic as February Bowler of the Month

    2015PBA04JasonBelmonte.jpgJason Belmonte (pictured left with the USBC Masters trophy) of Orange, New South Wales, Australia, has been chosen as the February 2015 Kegel Bowler of the Month by the International Bowling Media Association.

    Belmonte had a month to remember with an unprecedented three-peat win at the 65th United States Bowling Congress Masters, followed up by a back-to-back win at the 50th anniversary Barbasol PBA Tournament of Champions.

    In the USBC Masters television stepladder final, fourth-seeded Pete Weber, St. Ann, Missouri downed fifth-seeded Martin Larsen, Sweden, 237-223 in the opening match. Weber then defeated third-seeded Mike DeVaney, Winchester, California, 211-204.

    2015PBA05JasonBelmonte.jpgThe second-seeded Belmonte ousted Weber in a tense semifinal, 232-210, before racing to a 202-157 victory over A.J. Johnson, Oswego, Illinois.

    The following week in the Tournament of Champions, fourth-seeded Sean Rash, Montgomery, Illinois defeated, fifth-seeded Scott Norton, 237-215, in the television stepladder's opening match. Rash then threw the 25th televised 300 game in PBA history against third-seeded Ryan Ciminelli, Cheektowaga, New York, 300-214.

    Second-seeded Belmonte ousted Rash, 235-203, before claiming the title (pictured right with the trophy) with a 232-214 win against top-seeded Rhino Page, Orlando, Florida.

    Others obtaining votes this month were Tannya Roumimper, winner of the World Bowling Tour H.H. Emir Cup, and Parker Bohn III, winner of the PBA Players Championship.
