In her most recent national column, Hall of Fame bowler Jeanette Robinson said, "Ladies, if you have ever competed in a square dance competition, you know the secret is getting a partner early. So Do-Si-Do for the big green bucks."
Jeanette is encouraging women everywhere to find a male partner for the most significant mixed doubles event staged in years, the $100,000 MoRich Mixed Doubles National Championship, scheduled Super Bowl weekend February 3-5 at the beautiful Orleans Hotel, Casino and Bowling Center in Las Vegas, preceding the Super Bowl Mini Eliminator February 6-12.
The good news for the ladies, and the men, is that there are plenty of good partners out there, but like in square dancing, it's smart to ask early. More good news is that there are very few restrictions on who is eligible for this prestigious event which will pay $16,000 to the champions with only 250 entries.
Who is eligible? For starters - ALL women, including all current PBA members and former PWBA members and champions. And the only restriction on the men's side is that the current PBA exempt tour players and multiple champions since 1995 cannot bowl.
That means that ALL PBA senior bowlers, ALL PBA regional members, ALL PBA champions with only one title since 1995, and ALL international team players and elite amateur ARE ELIGIBLE.
To make this dynamic new event even more competitive and exciting, no two national pro champions can bowl together, but there are no restrictions on the senior or amateur level, and many of the best male and female bowlers in the world are expected to bowl. The long term goal is to make this an annual event to kickoff Super Bowl Megabuck week in Las Vegas.
There's no better place to be than Las Vegas on NFL Super Bowl weekend, and this special event will add to the excitement for the bowlers and the fans. With it's eight three-game qualifying squads, the event will be even more competitive, and 1 in 4 teams will cash for at least double the $400 entry fee.
After the qualifying squads are completed, bowlers in the MoRich Mixed Doubles and those arriving for the Super Bowl Mini Eliminator will be invited to compete in a 'Bowlers Only' Texas Hold-Em Poker Party during the NFL Super Bowl football game. After the party, the top teams will roll in a two-game semi-final round to determine the top 16 teams for the best 2 of 3 game match play finals. 1 in 8 teams will go to the finals.
If only 31 or more teams bowl in each of the eight qualifying squads, the event will exceed its goal of 250 entries, and at least 63 teams will cash for a minimum of $800. All semi-finalists (top 32) will make at least $1000, and the sweet 16 teams will cash for at least $1500 each.
