Two in a row for Froggatt, beats Palermaa to win Ankara Open

Last Sunday, Nick Froggatt (center) won the Maribor Open in Slovenia and pocketed 8.000 Euro. One week later, the Englishman defeated European ranking leader Osku Palermaa (right), 441-423, to win the European Bowling Tour Ankara Open and another 10.000 Euro.
In the title match over two games total pinfall at Rollhouse Bowling Center in Ankara, Turkey, Froggatt, left-handed, topped the two-hander from Finland by 9 pins in each of the two games, 213-204 and 228-219. Palermaa received 7.000 Euro for finishing second.
In the semi-finals, Palermaa eliminated Kirsten Penny (left), England, 418-382, while Froggatt sidelined Palermaa's compatriot Petri Mannonen (right), 437-364. Mannonen and Penny pocketed 4.000 Euro each for finishing third and fourth, respectively.

Multiple European champion Jari Ratia (left), Finland, who led the Final Round 1 in the Ankara Open with a 996 4-game total carried the momentum into Round 2 when posted a 943 pinfall total, an average of 235.75, to lead the top 16 players into the single-elimination finals.
Ratia's team mate Pasi Uotila was second with 916, followed by Bo Winther Pedersen, Denmark, with 904 and Dennis Eklund, Sweden, with 903. John Wells, England, was fifth with 899.
Those four countries have 14 players in the finals: England (5), Finland (4), Sweden (3), and Denmark (2).
Russian Alexey Parshukov landed in 7th place with 873 and Leonidas Maragkos, Greece, took the 16th an final spot with 846 and the higher final game over Marco Baade, Germany, 229 to 222. Qualifying leader Martin Larsen, Sweden, made the cut in 14th place with 853. Mustafa Onur was the best Turkish finisher in 23rd place with 804.
Kirsten Penny (right), the only remaining woman in the field, has already secured the women's ranking title and a 1.500 Euro bonus for the top-ranked woman.

Marcus Berndt (right), Sweden, roiled the first 300 game of the tournament in game #3 en route to land in fourth place with 939. World Ranking Masters Stuart Williams took the 24th and final qualifying post with 834 pinfall total or an average of 208.50.

The 21st and final qualifying squad on Saturday evening saw a surprising attack from Ekrem Topac, a well known bowling center manager in Turkey, who chalked up a 1349 series to miss the top 8 by mere 11 pins.
German national team member and former World Games champion Tobias Gäbler (right), hit the cutoff number for 40th place with 1268, an average of 211.33.
Danish International Bo Winther Pedersen and Fahrettin YeÅŸilkaya, Turkey, led the Desperado Squad, the ultimate one-game straw to qualify for the finals, with 243 each. Mehmet Böncü had 242 and Özgür Özata, both Turkey, grabbed the final spot with 235.

Multiple European champion Jari Ratia (left), Finland, who led the Final Round 1 in the Ankara Open with a 996 4-game total carried the momentum into Round 2 when posted a 943 pinfall total, an average of 235.75, to lead the top 16 players into the single-elimination finals. Ratia's team mate Pasi Uotila was second with 916, followed by Bo Winther Pedersen, Denmark, with 904 and Dennis Eklund, Sweden, with 903. John Wells, England, was fifth with 899.
Those four countries have 14 players in the finals: England (5), Finland (4), Sweden (3), and Denmark (2).
Russian Alexey Parshukov landed in 7th place with 873 and Leonidas Maragkos, Greece, took the 16th an final spot with 846 and the higher final game over Marco Baade, Germany, 229 to 222. Qualifying leader Martin Larsen, Sweden, made the cut in 14th place with 853. Mustafa Onur was the best Turkish finisher in 23rd place with 804.

Martin Larsen (left), Sweden, won the qualifying in the European Bowling Tour Ankara Open with 1446 six-game total, an average of 241.00, en route to receive a 1,000 Euro bonus and a bye for the first round of the finals Sunday at Rollhouse Bowling Center in Ankara, Turkey. The 2-time World Champion became the first player in this year's event, who cracked the 1400-bar in Squad 15 of 21, and remained unchallenged on the final day.
Reigning World Cup champion Osku Palermaa (right), Finland, was 14 pins behind in second place with 1432. Jesper Agerbo, Denmark (1407), and Pasi Uotila (1400), Finland, were the only other players who managed a 1400 score. German national team member and former World Games champion Tobias Gäbler (right), hit the cutoff number for 40th place with 1268, an average of 211.33. Danish International Bo Winther Pedersen and Fahrettin YeÅŸilkaya, Turkey, led the Desperado Squad, the ultimate one-game straw to qualify for the finals, with 243 each. Mehmet Böncü had 242 and Özgür Özata, both Turkey, grabbed the final spot with 235.

Agerbo, Andersin crack top 8 in Ankara Open
Jesper Agerbo (left) from Denmark led the 19th of 21 qualifying squads in the European Bowling Tour Ankara Open with 1407 six-game total to move into third place in the overall qualifying standings. Started with a high game of 280 and didn't roll a game lower than 205. With two more squads to go, Swede Martin Larsen remained atop the leaderboard and is vying for the 1.000 Euro bonus for the qualifying winner. Agerbo is sandwiched between Finns Osku Palermaa (1432) and Pasi Uotila (1400), who sit in second and fourth place.
Alexey Parshukov, Russia, is fifth with 1388, followed by Maribor Open runner-up Erik Andersin (right), Sweden, who had 1383 in Squad 19 to overtake sixth place. Rounding out the top 8 are Leonidas Maragkos, Greece, and Petri Mannonen, Finland, with 1382 and 1364, respectively. The Malaysian men's and women's national team pulled out from the tournament to concentrate on the Asian Tour events. Rasmussen overtakes the lead in Ankara
The 11th qualifying squad was fully under control of the Danish bowlers. Rikke Holm Rasmussen (left) almost started with a 196 triplicate (1996-196-194) but closed out her six-game series in style with 235, 234 and 257 (726) for 1312 pinfall total. With her 48 pins handicap, the standard for women on the European Bowling Tour, Rasmussen tied Habib DoÄŸan with 1360 total but overtook the lead due to the higher-last-game rule, 257-234.
Rasmussen's compatriot Frederik Ohrgaard and Jesper Agerbo (right) were close behind with 1353 and 1342 to move into third and fourth place in the overall qualifying standings, respectively. The 12th qualifying squad was dominated by players, who came from the Maribor Open in Slovenia to Ankara.
World Ranking Masters champion Stuart Williams (right), England, led the squad with 1308 en route to move into sixth place. World Championship Doubles gold medalists Martin Larsen and Robert Andersson (l-r), Sweden, landed in 10th and 14th place with 1276 and 1269 pinfall, resp.All three fell two spots during the 13th squad on Thursday evening as Marcus Berndt, Sweden, and current EBT ranking leader Osku Palermaa, Finland, moved into sixth and seventh place with 1335 and 1331, respectively.
Berndt (left) recovered from a 163 in the opening game with 267 and 199 before he finished with three consecutive games over 230. Palermaa (right) started his series with five games over 200 including a 268 and led the squad until the final game when he fell behind Berndt due to a 186 game.
