Lucas Legnani (pictured left) from Argentina, who qualified for the finals in the VII Catalonia Open - Trofeu Galasa in 17th place leaped 16 spots in a span of just four games in Sunday's Quarterfinal at Bowling Pedralbes in Barcelona, Spain.

Legnani, who carried forward 700 pins or 50 per cent of his qualifying total, rolled games of 245, 278, 245 and 258 for 1026 (256.50) to overtake the lead with 1726 total. Legnani was the sole player in the 48-player field who cracked the 1000-bar over four games.

Jesper Agerbo (right), Denmark, who rolled the tournament's first perfecto in qualifying, finished his block with a 277 game and 997 total to jump from 11th to second place with 1713.

Dominic Barrett (left), England, had 944 to move up three spots to third with 1670. European ranking leader and two-time defending ranking champion Osku Palermaa, Finland, slipped to spots to fourth with 1660 behind a 926 series this morning.

Local favorite Marcial Ovide moved from 9th to fourth with 918 and 1640. Swede Robert Andersson, fell one spot to sixth with 908 and 1635. Krista Pöllänen, Finland, remained the best woman in the field in 7th place with 1633 including 8 pins handicap each game.

Pöllänen (right) is one of five women (Janine Gabel, Germany; Kirsten Penny, England; Piritta Kantola, Heidi Manninen, both Finland; Wendy Kok, Netherlands are the others), who made the second cut.

Tore Torgersen, Norway, and Guy Caminsky (left), South Africa, grabbed 23rd and 24th place with 1550 or an average of 221.43.

Among those who failed to make the cut was top qualifier Stuart Williams, England. The 2007 World Ranking Masters, who led two qualifying squads by averaging over 240 each, had a 797 4-game series and slipped all the way out of the semifinals to land in 29th place with 1534.

Also eliminated was reigning European ranking queen Nina Flack (right), Sweden, who ended up in 37th place with 1493 including handicap.

A total of 48 players, the top 30 in the overall qualifying standings plus the top player of each qualifying squad not among the top 30 plus the next best six women, advanced to the finals and carried forward 50 per cent of their respective qualifying total.

Those 48 players bowled four games. The top 24 advanced and will determine the three players for the stepladder finals in another 4-game block with the previous pinfall being carried forward. In the stepladder, No. 3 takes on No. 2 for the right to bowl No. 1 for the title and the 12.000 top prize.

The VII Catalonia Open - Trofeu Galasa is the third stop of the 2009 European Bowling Tour and one of the Tour's "Majors". The tournament offers total prize fund of 55.000 Euro. The top 48 players will cash.
