28 players bowled in the Open Division of the 18th qualifying squad at the Super Bowl Mini Eliminator. The top three players (1 in 8 advance) made it to the Daily Finals worth minimum $250. Kerry Kraft (left), Warren, MI, set the pace with 721, followed by 2004 U.S. National Amateur Champion Rhino Page (right), Lawrence, KS, and Nick Smith, Canyon Country, CA, both 711.
Lennie Boresch, who won the Boot Hill Tournament this week, missed the cut by four pins with 707. Former Team USA member Kurt Pilon was fifth with 690. Other former or current Team USA members in the field were Derek Sapp, Tony Manna Jr., Michael Mullin and David Haynes. Corey Husted, son of three-time U.S. Open champion Dave Husted, landed in sixth place with 689, while United States Bowling Congress Masters Third-place finisher Art Brown was seventh.
Also in the field, PBA champion David Ozio, former PWBAers Liz Johnson and Robin Romeo and European ranking champion Paul Moor, England.
Steve Hamaguchi, Escondido, CA, led the 39 and under Division with 686. James Porter, Owosso, MI, tossed a 707 to lead the 40-49 Division. Mark Van Meter, Albuquerque, NM, set the pace in the Senior Division with 634 and Darris Wiltse, Rose City, MI, topped the 205 and under Division with 595.
