Adrian Ang wins his first EBT title in 2009 Ankara Open

    2009EBT10AdrianAng2.jpgMalaysian national team member Adrian Ang (pictured left) defeated Pasi Uotila, Finland, 476-424 to win his first title on the Bowling Tour at the Ankara Open Sunday at Rollhouse Bowling Center in Ankara, Turkey,

    Ang, seeded third in the 8-player single-elimination match play finals over two games total pinfall, took a comfortable 51-pin lead after a 258-207 win in game #1 and cruised to victory with a 217-217 in game #2. Ang pocketed 10.000 Euro and 100 ranking points for the victory, while top seeded Uotila had to settle for second place, worth 6.000 Euro.

    The Finn put on a show in Final Round 4 when he rolled games of 279, 267, 269 and 428 to earn the top seed with 1063 pinfall total and an average of 265.75 over four games.

    2009EBT10Top4.jpgUotila ousted No. 8 seed, PBA exempt player Stuart Williams, England, in the opening match, 492-387 and eliminated his compatriot, two-time defending EBT ranking champion and current leader, Osku Palermaa, 469-421.

    Ang survived a close opening match against former world champion Patrick, Backe, Sweden, 469-464 and topped Anja Ginge Jensen, Denmark, in the semis, 442-404. The Dane claimed the women's rankings in Ankara with a 481-380 win in the opening match against Helén Johnsson, Sweden.

    Ginge Jensen received 4.500 Euro including 1.000 for the top-ranked woman for third place and Palermaa pocketed 3.500 Euro for fourth place.

    The Ankara Open is the 10th stop of the 2009 European Bowling Tour and one of the Tour's "Major" tournaments. As reported earlier, the Ankara Open has changed its EBT status from Premier to Major due to reduced prize money as a consequence of the global financial crisis.

    The EBT Tour takes a two-week break before heading to Austria's capitol city for the 7th Columbia 300 Vienna Open, The VO is the 11th stop of the 2009 European Bowling Tour and once again a "Major". The tournament will be held from Tuesday Sep. 29 through Sunday Oct. 4, 2009 at the renovated 32-lane Plus Bowling in Vienna, Austria.
