BWAA names Webb and Miller-Mackie Senior Bowlers of the Year

The Bowling Writers Association of America elected Wayne Webb, Columbus, OH, and Dana Miller-Mackie, Albuquerque, NM, 2010 Senior Bowlers of the Year.
Webb (pictured left), a recent electee to the USBC Hall of Fame, was a clear cut winner as he earned first place votes on all but three ballots, amassing 177 points. He captured three Professional Bowlers Association senior titles during 2010, the Columbus Open, the Jackson Open, and the prestigious USBC Senior Masters.
The 20-time PBA champion also had a second place finish in Dayton, a seventh in Lake City, Indiana, ninth in the Senior U.S. Open and seventeenth in the Pepsi Open held in Decatur, IL. Webb, ranked number one in PBA points, also led in earnings for the year with $41,900 and clinched the PBA Senior Player of the Year award. He was previously named PBA Senior Rookie of the Year 2008.
Finishing a distant second in the male Senior Bowler of the Year balloting with 70 points was Walter Ray Williams, Jr., Ocala, FL, who competed in six events, winning the Miller High Life Classic in Mooresville, NC. Third and fourth in the balloting were Mark Williams, Beaumont, TX, and Tom Baker, King, NC.
The women's balloting was the most tightly contested race in ten years between Golden Ladies Champion Dana Miller Mackie and USBC Senior Queens winner Char Hammel, Las Vegas. Miller-Mackie edged out Hammel 133-120 in the vote tally.
Miller-Mackie (right), a USBC Hall of Famer, had finished third in the USBC Senior Queens and Hammel took home a sixth place finish in the Golden Ladies Classic. Miller-Mackie also competed in the Women's US Open, finishing 31st while Hammel competed in the PBA Senior Open, finishing in the middle of a large field of male competitors.
Candidates for Senior Bowler of the Year must be 50 years of age by January 1 of the year of competition. The Bowling Writers Association of America instituted the male award in 1993 and began the female award in 2001.
