Korean women on course for first gold medal in Trios event at Asian Championships

    Singapore, Japan in second and third after first 3-game block on medium oil

    2011AsCW3GyeMinYoungShinBoHyunSonYunHee.jpgSon Yun-Hee, Shin Bo-Hyun and Gye Min-Young (pictured left, r-l) led the women Trios event after the first block of three games on medium oil Wednesday morning at Khalifa Bowling Center in Abu Dhabi, UAE and have their sights set on winning the first women's gold medal for Korea in the 21st Asian Championships.

    The threesome knocked down 1982 pins, an average of 220.22, behind games of 659, 619 and 704. Yun-Hee closed out her 721 set with 279, the highest game of the day, and was followed by Min-Young with 650 and Bo-Hyun with 611.

    2011AsCW3YanLingDaphneTanBerniceLim.jpgTrailing the Koreans by 63 pins to sit in second place were Doubles gold medalists Bernice Lim and Daphne Tan and team mate Tan Yan Ling (pictured right, r-l), who checked in with 1919 (213.22). Yan Ling led the team with 702, Tan contributed 662 and Lim had 555.

    Third place belonged to Misaki Mukotani, Haruka Matsuda and Kanako Ishimine of Japan who rolled three consistent games between 621 and 637 for 1894 pinfall total (210.44).

    Just six pins off the pace for the medals were Indonesia's Novie Phang, Sharon Limansantoso and Putty Armein with 1888 including a 711 game, the highest game of all 18 trios.

    Places four and five belong to the Malaysian trios with 1859 and 1858. Jacqueline Sijore had the highest individual series with 722, an average of 240.67.

    130 pins behind their team mates in seventh place with 1852 was the second Korean trio featuring Hwang Sun-Ok, Jeon Eun-Hee and Hong Su-Yeon.

    Sun-Ok held on to the lead in All Events after 15 out of 24 games (combined results of Singles, Doubles, Trios and Team) with 3340 and an average of 222.67. Daphne Tan moved into second place with 3317. Yun-Hee leaped three spots into third place with 3276 and Sijore jumped from eighth to fourth with 3270.

    The 62 women from 12 countries - Australia, Bahrain, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and UAE - will return on Thursday morning for the second 3-game block of the Trios competition on short oil.
