Jim Goodwin named recipient of BWAA Hennessy Award of Merit

    2011BWAAJimGoodwin.jpgThe Bowling Writers Association of America (BWAA) announced veteran sports writer and bowling editor/publisher, Jim Goodwin (pictured), of Rockwall, Texas will receive the 2011 Hennessy Award of Merit.

    The presentation will be made during the BPAA/Columbia Awards dinner, Tuesday evening, June 28, 2011 at the Gaylord Texan Resort in Grapevine, Texas.

    As a sports writer and publisher/editor, Goodwin's background has been highly significant. Since 1984 to the present he has been a member of BWAA and a member of the BWAA board of directors starting in 1997.

    He founded the Stars and Strikes Bowling Newsmagazine, which is the only national bowling tabloid in the U.S., currently celebrating 21 years of existence.

    The Hennessy Award of Merit is named after the late bowling reporter and USBC Hall of Famer, Mike Hennessy. Hennessy, the ultimate "jack of all bowling trades" covered bowling at all levels of the sport. Hennessy served as president of the BWAA in 1997.

    The award places focus on sports writers who have contributed to the betterment of bowling by educating the public both general and sport specific of the accomplishments of those involved in the game as well as offering thoughtful and provocative commentary on issues that affect the direction and future of bowling.

    Upon receiving the news he was the winner of the Hennessy Award of Merit Jim said, "Mike Hennessy was a great guy and it's an honor to receive an award with his name on it!"
