Dominic Barrett, Robert Andersson take over lead in 7th Storm San Marino Open

    Andersson led Squad 16 (15 has been cancelled) behind games of 224, 289, 238, 247, 223 and 253 en route to overtake the qualifying lead with 1474 six-game total and an average of 245.67.

    Barrett topped Andersson one squad later by just one pin to lead the field of 219 players from 18 countries with 1475 (245.83). The 2009 European Masters champion, who missed the last five European Bowling Tour events after being injured in quad-bike (ATV) accident during the desert party of the 5th Kingdom International Open in March, had games of 266, 203, 257, 222, 290 and 237.

Squad 2 leader Antonio Maddaloni, Italy, is fourth with 1417 and is followed by Syafiq Ridhwan, Malaysia, in fifth place with 1417 and Italian Maurizio Celli in sixth place with 1412.

    PBA Player of the Year Mika Koivuniemi (right), Finland, was second to Andersson in Squad 16 with 1392 despite a 158 opening game, but couldn't improve his 1411 high series. The 9-time PBA champion slipped to seventh place.

    Davide Spagnoli, Italy, is eighth with 1399 and is followed by Serge Frouvelle and Thierry Sacco, both of France, in ninth and tenth place with 1394 and 1390, respectively.

Berndt started his series with five games between 217 and 238 before finishing with a high game of 255.

    Laurence Gaillard, France, is the best of 27 women in the field and one of eight women in the top 38 in 24th place with 1347 including 48 pins handicap.

    Three-time EBT ranking champion Paul Moor (right), England, led Squad 18 Friday night with 1323 to move into 33rd place in the overall qualifying standings. PBA Hall of Famer Amleto Monacelli, Venezuela, was second with 1315, good for 37 place.

    With 18 out of 22 qualifying squads completed, Gianluca Badiali, Italy, holds the 38th and last place to advance with 1314 and an average of 219.

    Qualifying ends on Saturday, July 9 with Squads 19-22 scheduled for 9 a.m., 1, 5 and 9 p.m. CET followed by the Desperado Squad on Sunday morning at 12.30 a.m.

    2011EBT11SanMarinoBanner_small The 7th Storm San Marino Open is the 11th stop of the 2011 European Bowling Tour and the fourth out of six EBT "Gold" tournaments this season.

    The tournament will be held from July 2-10, 2011 at 18-lane Rose'n Bowl in Serravalle, San Marino and offers total prize fund of 60.000 Euro with 10.000 Euro going to the winner, 6.000 to the runner-up and 3.400 each to the third and fourth place finisher.

Nicole Sanders (right) of the Netherlands finished in sixth place to win the women's rankings.

    Since the Viborg International in Viborg in Denmark has been cancelled, the 2011 European Bowling Tour consists of 21 tour stops in 17 countries including two Platinum, six Gold, seven Silver and six Satellite tournaments.

    The top 50 men and the top 50 women in each event receive ranking points. The winner of a Platinum tournament receives 250 ranking points, the winner of a Gold tournament such as the San Marino Open gets 150, the winner of a Silver tournament earns 100, and the winner of a Satellite tournament gets 50 ranking points.

    The top 16 men and the top 16 women at the end of the 2011 season qualify for the fifth EBT Masters to be held at Dream-Bowl Palace in Unterföhring near Munich, Germany on April 30 and May 1, 2012. The event will become the first EBT Masters to be contested on single lane condition.

    Qualifying of the 7th Storm San Marino Open (six-game series, unlimited re-entries) runs from Saturday, July second through Saturday, July 9th with the last qualifying squad 22 scheduled for 9 p.m. CET.

    Qualifying will conclude with the one-game Desperado Squad slated for 12.30 a.m. on Sunday morning. The qualifying winner will be awarded a 1.000 Euro bonus. Women will receive 8 pins handicap each game throughout the entire event, a standard for women on the European Bowling Tour.

    The San Marino Open features a 40 feet Kegel lane conditioning pattern with 24.25ml volume oil total.

    A total of 48 players will advance to the finals on Sunday - the top 38 players from the overall qualifying standings plus the top 3 from the squads conducted on July 2-3, the top 4 from the squads conducted on July 4-6 and the top 3 from the Desperado Squad. The top 6 qualifiers will earn two byes, while qualifiers 7-12 will get one.

    The other 36 players will bowl four games from scratch to cut to the top 18, who will meet qualifiers 7-12 in round two. Those 24 bowl another 4 games from scratch to cut to the top 10, who will join the top six qualifiers in single-elimination match play with the two game total pinfall determining the winner.

    The highest seeded player bowls the lowest seeded, the second-highest seeded players bowls the second-lowest and so on. The field will be cut to 8, 4 then 2, who will bowl for the title and the 10.000 Euro top prize.
