Team USA dominates 49th Lee Evans Tournament of The Americas

    20-player team wins 30 out of 45 gold medals

    146 players - 79 male and 67 female bowlers - from 15 countries, Aruba, Bahamas, Bermuda, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Puerto Rico, United States, Venezuela and Virgin Islands, participated in the 49th Lee Evans Tournament of The Americas from July 31 - Aug. 6, 2011

    50 Adults (28 men/22 women), 37 Seniors (19/18), 14 Super Seniors (6/8), 24 Junior A (12/9) and 21 Junior B (12/9) competed for medals in Singles, Doubles, Mixed Doubles, Teams, All Events and Country All Events at Sawgrass Lanes in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., United States.

    The 20-player Team USA dominated the event winning 30 out of 45 gold medals including all gold medals in the Team event and Country All Events. Jarret Mizo, Brenda Padilla (Adult) and Jerry and Carol Teel (Super Senior), and Makayla Douglas (Junior B) led the team with five gold medals each.

    The remaining 15 gold medals were split between Venezuela (6), Colombia (4), Puerto Rico (2), Brazil, Costa Rica and Mexico (1 each).

    Representing Venezuela was PBA Hall of Famer Amleto Monacelli. The 19-time PBA champion and two-time PBA Player of the Year (1989 and 1990) claimed the titles in Adult Singles and All Events. His compatriot, Arturo Hernandez pocketed three gold medals in Singles, Doubles and All Events. The long-time Venezuelan national team captain received the Lee Evans Memorial award.
