Chris Warren closes in on Pete Weber’s PBA Regional record

2015PBA50ChrisWarren.jpgChris Warren of Grants Pass, Ore., posted a 6-2 match play record and a 3,510 pinfall total Sunday to win the PBA Boise Northwest/West Open presented by Columbia 300 at 20th Century Lanes in Boise, Idaho, moving to within one title of catching PBA Hall of Famer Pete Weber for the all-time QubicaAMF PBA Regional titles lead.

Warren, who now owns 47 standard PBA Regional titles, earned $2,000 when he defeated David Haynes of Las Vegas by 39 pins for the title. Warren, 52, also has won six PBA Tour titles and one PBA50 Regional title for 54 overall PBA titles.

2016PBA5005PeteWeber2.jpgIn addition to his record 48 standard PBA Regional titles, Weber (right) has won 37 PBA Tour, 10 PBA50 Tour and four PBA50 Regional titles, tying fellow hall of famer Walter Ray Williams Jr. with 99 overall PBA titles.

Haynes, a former member of Team USA, finished with 3,471 total pins for his 16 games, including match play bonus pins.

In the companion PBA50 Open, Tony Rodriguez of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., went 5-1 and knocked down 2,925 total pins for 14 games to top Wayne Manwill of Boise, Idaho. Manwill had a 5-1 match play record and 2,839 pins.

PBA50 Tour coverage returns next week with a doubleheader from Pro Bowl West in Ft. Wayne, Ind. Xtra Frame’s exclusive live coverage will begin with the PBA50 DeHayes Insurance Group Championship presented by Ebonite and Pro Bowl West Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.

After a two-day break, Pro Bowl West will host the PBA60 Dick Weber Championship presented by Hammer for players 60 and older Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Looking ahead, Xtra Frame will cover the PBA50 National Championship to benefit Riley Hospital for Children Aug. 15-17 at Signature Lanes in Elkhart, Ind., and the PBA Xtra Frame Gene Carter’s Pro Shop Classic from Mid-Country Lanes in Middletown, Del., Aug. 20-21.

QubicaAMF PBA Regional Update: Graham Fach wins Greater Marion Central Open

PBA rookie Graham Fach of Guelph, Ontario, defeated Josh Conner of Columbus, Ohio, 239-211, to win the PBA Greater Marion Central Open at BlueFusion Fun Center in Marion, Ohio, Sunday.

Fach, who earlier in the year won the PBA Players Championship (pictured above) to become the first Canadian to win a PBA Tour title, claimed his second PBA Central Region title along with the $2,500 first prize.

He defeated Brandon Novak of Chillicothe, Ohio, 278-217, to advance to the championship match. In the first stepladder match, Novak downed Patrick Dombrowski of Parma, Ohio, 216-198.

Greg Ostrander of Freehold, N.J. defeated Andrew Suscreba of Clifton, N.J., 222-202, to win the PBA Romeo Chevrolet/Buick/GMC Eastern Open presented by Ebonite at Patel’s Kingston Lanes in Kingston, N.Y., Sunday for his first QubicaAMF PBA Regional title.

Ostrander dominated the weekend scoring, leading the field by 120 pins over the 17 games leading up to the stepladder finals. He clinched the title with clutch strikes in the ninth and 10th frames to pick up the $2,500 first prize and he became eligible to enter the 2017 PBA Tournament of Champions with his win.

In the semifinal match, Suscreba defeated Matt O’Grady of South Amboy, N.J., 224-195, after O’Grady won the first match, defeating Johnathan Bower of Middletown, Pa. 278-245.

2016PBA50HarrySullins.jpgHarry Sullins (left) of Chesterfield Twp., Mich., defeated Brian Kretzer of Dayton, Ohio, by 130 pins to win the PBA50 Beverly Lanes Midwest/Central Open at Beverly Lanes in Arlington Heights, Ill., on Saturday.

Sullins finished the 17-game event with a 6-4 match play record and 3,892 total pins, including match play bonus pins, to pick up his second PBA50 title of the year and the 33rd of his career. He also earned a $1,600 prize while Kretzer finished with 3,752 total pins.

Jimmy Jean of Kathleen, Ga., defeated Charlie Toney of Oak Hill, W.Va., 212-182, in the title match to win his first QubicaAMF PBA Regional title in the PBA50 SpareTimes Hampton South Open at SpareTimes Lanes in Hampton, Va., Sunday.

Jean earned $1,600 and also qualified to enter the 2017 PBA Tournament of Champions.
In the semifinal round matches, Jean eliminated Wayne Bolin of Lumberton, N.C., 200-184, while Toney defeated Ken Shealy of Myrtle Beach, S.C., 182-158.

The August QubicaAMF PBA Regional schedule gets underway Aug. 4-6 with the PBA50 Progressive/Gerdman Insurance Agency/Al Smith Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep Central-Midwest Classic at Al-Mar Lanes in Bowling Green, Ohio. Events on tap for the Aug. 5-7 weekend include the PBA Bowlers Supply Storm Eastern Open at Colony Park Lanes in York, Pa.; the PBA AMF Western Branch South Open presented by Hammer in Chesapeake, Va., and the Tony Reyes Memorial Member/Non-Member Doubles at Fourth Street Bowl in San Jose, Calif.

Sandwiched in between the PBA50 DeHayes Insurance Group Championship presented by Pro Bowl West and Ebonite in Fort Wayne, Ind., Aug. 6-9, and the PBA60 Dick Weber National Championship presented by Hammer, Aug. 11-13, PBA50 players are invited to compete in the PBA50 Fort Wayne Central/Midwest Shootout – a one-day reduced entry fee event, on Wednesday, Aug. 10. Pro Bowl West will host all three events.

Over the Aug. 12-14 weekend, QubicaAMF PBA Regional action will include the Poplar Creek Midwest Open in Hoffman Estates, Ill.; the Killeen Southwest Open at Hallmark Lanes in Killeen, Texas; the Lefeld Implement Central Classic at Pla-Mor Lanes in Coldwater, Ohio, and the PBA Japan Region’s DHC Women’s Chameleon Open and Chameleon Open, both in Syama, Japan.

The Aug. 19-21 weekend will be headlined by the PBA Gene Carter Pro Shop Classic, presented by Xtra Frame, at Mid-County Bowling and Entertainment Center in Middletown, Del. The PBA Xtra Frame Tour event is projecting a $15,000 first prize along with a PBA Tour title.

Also over the Aug. 19-21 weekend, the QubicaAMF PBA Regional schedule includes the Emerald Bowl Southwest Challenge for non-champions and the PWBA-PBA Emerald Bowl Open for women. Both events in Houston, Texas, will be presented by Hammer. Also on tap is the Dave Husted Northwest Open presented by 900 Global at Milwaukie Bowl in Milwaukie, Ore.

Concluding the August schedule of QubicaAMF PBA Regional events over the Aug. 26-28 weekend will be the Fayetteville South Open presented by MOTIV along with the PWBA-PBA Fayetteville South Open – a women’s only event – at Lafayette Lanes in Fayetteville, N.C.; the AMF Garland Lanes Southwest Open, presented by Classic Products & Ultimate Bowling Products, in Garland, Texas, and the Aquimo West Open at Mesa East Bowl in Mesa, Ariz.

Looking ahead to Labor Day weekend, the QubicaAMF PBA Regional calendar includes the PBA60 Wilson & Sons Pest Control South Open followed by the PBA50 Budweiser Open presented by Mooresville Ford and Columbia 300 at George Pappas’ Victory Lanes in Mooresville, N.C.; the PBA50 Strike Zone Open presented by Columbia 300 in Pottsville, Pa., and the PBA Japan Region’s Viper Open presented by Ebonite in Iruma, Japan.

2016PBA5012BrianVoss2.jpgA contingent of nine Chinese bowlers have survived an intense four-day competition in Shanghai, and will represent the Republic of China in PBA World Series of Bowling VIII, Longmarch Bowling president Frank Zhao has announced.

The nine players will be make the trip courtesy of Shi Guotai, the vice chairman of China Bowling Association.
