The Korean women stated the 20th Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships by sweeping the medals in the Singles competition Saturday morning at Hong Kong Bowling City, EMax, Kowloon Bay, Hong Kong, China. Hwang Sun-Ok finished with 290, 279 to overtake Choi-Jin A, who led since the first game by three pins, 1497 to 1494. Jeon Eun Hee rolled the first 300-game in the last game to earn bronze with . Their team mate Kim Yeau Jin, landed in fourth place with 1448.
The 20th Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships got underway this morning at the state-of-the-art Hong Kong Bowling City at EMax in Hong Kong, China. The Opening Ceremony was conducted in a style all the players and coaches and most of the officials prefer: short and sweet, but really beautiful thanks to the Hong Kong Lion Dancers (pictured). In front of more than 250 bowlers and officials from 19 countries, the Opening Ceremony started at 11.15 am with the official march-past of the participating countries and the national anthem of Hong Kong, China.
The 20th Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships which will be held from July 4 to 11, 2008 in Hong Kong, China. It marks the third time that Hong Kong is hosting the prestigious event after 1988 and 2002. The Opening Ceremony will be held on Friday, July 4, 2008 at 11am local time at Hong Kong Bowling City, a state-of-the-art 48-laner. A total of 168 bowlers from 19 countries - 107 men and 61 women - will compete in Singles, Doubles, Trios, Team of Five, All Events and Masters for gold, silver and bronze medals in the men's and women's division respectively.
The 20th Asian Bowling Federation General Assembly set new standards for bowling congresses in the modern history of the sport. The Meeting was finished in record one hour and 15 minutes and took place in a friendly and constructive atmosphere, especially considering that the election of the ABF Presidium was on the agenda. It was absolutely no surprise that the assembly members decided to re-elect Sheikh Talal M. Al Sabah (left) as President of the Asian Bowling Federation for the next four years. Among the new vice presidents are two familiar faces in international bowling.

Invited to attend the assembly was WTBA President Kevin Dornberger (l.), United States. One of the topics on the agenda for the representatives of the ABF member federations is the election of the next ABF President. Incumbent president Sheikh Talal is seeking re-election. The Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress (MTBC) sprang a surprise by naming an unexpected line-up and a new coach for the Asian Championships, which will be held in Hong Kong from July 4-11. Youngsters Mohd Nur Aiman (l.) and Sin Li Jane received a big boost yesterday when they were named ahead of several elite bowlers for their first major international tournament. Team manager Cheah Ban Cheng said that they selected Aiman ahead of elite bowler Mohd Noer Said to give the former a good exposure.
