Nikita Koshelev (pictured left) and Andrey Emelyanov wrapped up the qualifying of the Russian Open finishing in a three-way tie for first place Saturday night at Cosmik Belay Dacha in Moscow, Russia. Both players led the final Squad 12 and tied previous leader Sergey Andreev (right), all from Russia, with 1424 six-game total and an average of 237.33.
As a tie on the European Bowling Tour is broken by the highest last game, Koshelev (244) won the qualifying and earned the No. 1 seed for the single-elimination finals. Emelyanov (232) was seeded second while Andreev (215) slipped to third place.
Squad 10 leader Alexander Panchenko (left) of Kazakhstan was mere two pins behind to land in fourth place with 1422. The 15-year-old national youth champion started bowling just one-and-a-half years ago. In May 2011 he rolled a 300 game en route to win the Kazakhstan Cup, the biggest adult tournament in his country.
Panchenko was the sole non-Russian bowler in the top 8, who bypass the first round of the finals on Sunday morning.
Roman Starchenkov and Alexander Medveditskov slipped three spots to finish qualifying in fifth and sixth place with 1402. Vadim Kalacutok led the penultimate qualifying squad 11 to land in seventh place with 1396. Rounding out the 8 was Victor Krasavkin, who toppled 1392 pins, an average of 232.

Mikhail Kalika (left), Ukraine, who led the morning squad 9 with 1376, missed the top 8 by 16 pins finishing in ninth place.
Russian national team member, Alena Korobkova (right), was the best of four women, who survived the first cut. Despite starting her series with a 170 game, Korobkova managed 1289, an average of 214.83, and added 48 pins handicap to finish in 20th place with 1337.
Julia Polyanskaya, Russia, was four pins behind in 23rd place with 1333, followed by Daria Kovalova, Ukraine, in 27th place with 1319 and Kristina Kryl, Russia, in 28th place with 1318.
Vladislav Myslev, Russia, took the 32nd and last place to advance with 1310 total and an average of 218.33.
Another four Russian bowlers led the single-game Desperado Squad early Sunday morning to join the top 32 qualifiers in the finals. National team member Gennady Sidorov (right) secured his spot in the finals with 289, the highest game in the tournament thus far. Mikhail Lukyanov and Kirill Matvienko were next with 237 and Oleg Sokolov took the last spot with 229.
The Russian Open drew 181 participants - 141 men and 39 women - from 10 countries - China, Cyprus, Japan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Moldova, Serbia, Ukraine and the host country Russia.
The Russian bowlers came from Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Krasnodar, Naberezhnye Chelny, Kazan, Izhevsk, Ekaterinburg, Chelyabinsk, Rostov-on-Don, Tula, Voronezh, Samara, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky (which is far-away from Moscow, close to Japan), Sochi, Perm, Vologda, and Orel.
The Russian Open, which will be held Sept. 13-18, 2011 at 30-lane Cosmik Belay Dacha in Russia's capital city Moscow, is the 15th stop of the 2011 European Bowling Tour and the fourth out of six EBT "Satellite" tournaments this season.
The tournament offers total prize fund of 25.000 Euro with 5.500 Euro going to the winner and 3.800 Euro to the runner-up, while the third and fourth place finishers will receive 2.500 Euro and 2.000, respectively.
Since the English Open has lost its EBT status, the 2011 European Bowling Tour consists of 20 tour stops in 16 countries including two Platinum, six Gold, six Silver and six Satellite tournaments.
The top 50 men and the top 50 women in each event receive ranking points. The winner of a Platinum tournament receives 250 ranking points, the winner of a Gold tournament gets 150, the winner of a Silver tournament earns 100, and the winner of a Satellite tournament such as the Russian Open gets 50 ranking points.
The top 16 men and the top 16 women at the end of the 2011 season qualify for the fifth EBT Masters to be held at Dream-Bowl Palace in Unterföhring near Munich, Germany on April 30 and May 1, 2012. The event will become the first EBT Masters to be contested on single lane condition.
The qualifying of the Russian Open (six-game series, unlimited re-entries) ran from Tuesday, Sept. 13 through Saturday, Sept. 17 and concluded with the Desperado Squad on Sunday morning. Women receive 8 pins handicap each game throughout the entire event, a standard for women on the European Bowling Tour.
A total of 36 players advanced to the finals on Sunday, Sept. 18 - the top 32 players from the overall qualifying standings plus the top 4 from the Desperado Squad. The top 8 qualifiers earned one bye and will be seeded 1-8 in Round Two.
The other 28 players will bowl four games starting from scratch with the top 8 advancing to the second round seeded 9th through 16th.
The remaining 16 players will determine the champion in single-elimination rounds with the two-game total to determine the winner. The highest seeded player bowls the lowest seeded player, the second highest seeded player bowls the second lowest seeded player, etc.
The field will be trimmed to eight and then four players. The winners of the semifinal matches will bowl for the title and the 5.500 top prize while the losers will meet in a two-game roll-off for third and fourth place.
