Dominic Barrett shoots 300 at 34th Trofeu Internacional Ciutat de Barcelona

    Englishman moves into third place overall; Mats Maggi, Ildemaro Ruiz hold on to the lead with 1424; six of seven squad leaders so far in the top 10; cut for 42nd place is currently 1228 (204.67 average)

    2012EBT04DominicBarrett.jpg2011BWCMatsMaggi.jpgDominic Barrett (pictured left) of England rolled the first 300 game of the 34th Trofeu Internacional Ciutat de Barcelona Thursday night at Bowling Pedralbes to win Squad 7 and to earn an automatic berth into Sunday's finals.

    The PBA champion and 2010 European Bowling Tour point ranking winner started his six-game series with 213, 208 and 218 before he achieved perfection in game four. Barrett closed things out with 257 and 222 for 1418, an average of 236.33, to move into third place in the overall qualifying standings.

    Mats Maggi (right) of Belgian and Ildemaro Ruiz of Venezuela, who won Squad 2 and 1, respectively, held on to the lead with 1424 total. Maggi was seeded first due to the higher last game (249 to 239).

    2012EBT04ToreTorgersen.jpg2012EBT11PerttuJussila.jpgTwo-hander Osku Palermaa of Finland is the best non-winner in fourth place with 1399. Squad 3 leader Eike Kabowski of Germany slipped to fifth place with 1397.

    Norwegian standout Tore Torgersen (left) posted 1396 in Squad 6 to jump into sixth place. The past World and European champion started his series with 258, 259 and 259. Marcial Ovide of Catalonia, one of the seventeen autonomous communities of the Kingdom of Spain, is the top local bowler in seventh place with 1389.

    Eight place Dennis Eklund (1381) and 10th place Peter Ljung (1371) are the only other non-winners in the top 10. Sandwiched between the two Swedes is Squad 5 leader Perttu Jussila (above right) of Finland, who used a high game of 275 for 1371.

Cayez sits in 16th place overall. Cristina Sanz of Catalonia is still the best of 18 women in the 103-player field from 21 countries but fell to 27th place with 1288 including 48 pins women's handicap.

    Three more women, Josefine Linderoth (37th, 1245), two-time EBt women's point ranking leader Nina Flack (right, 38th, 1244) and Rebecka Larsen (39th, 1232), all from Sweden, are above the cut line heading into the penultimate day of qualifying.

    Alvar Cardona Burgues of Catalonia holds the 42nd and last place to advance with 1228 or an average of 204.67. Qualifying continues Friday, July 20, with Squad 8-11 scheduled for 9 .am., 1, 5 and 9 p.m. CEST.

    2012EBT12BarcelonaLogo_small.jpg The 34th Trofeu Internacional Ciutat de Barcelona is the 12th stop of the 2012 European Bowling Tour and the third out of four EBT "Gold" tournaments this season.

    The tournament will be held July 17-22 at 14-lane Bowling Pedralbes in Barcelona, Spain and offers total prize fund of 60.000 Euro with 12.000 Euro going to the winner, 6.000 to the runner-up and 3.000 to the third place finisher.

    The tournament features a 41 feet Kegel lane conditioning pattern with 25.85ml volume oil total.

    The qualifying in Barcelona (six-game series, unlimited re-entries) runs from Tuesday July 17 through Saturday, July 21 with the last qualifying squad 15 scheduled for 9 p.m. CEST. Women receive 8 pins handicap each game throughout the entire tournament, a standard for women on the European Bowling Tour.

    A total of 48 players will advance to the finals on Sunday, July 22 - the top 42 qualifiers including all squad leaders and an additional six women.

    Those 48 players, who carry forward 50 per cent of their qualifying total, bowl four games to cut to the top 24, The top 3 players after another four-game block in Round Two qualify for the stepladder finals.

    The No. 3 seed bowls No. 2 and the winner takes on No. 1 to determine the champion in one-game matches. The stepladder finals will be broadcasted live on Eurosport 2 on Sunday, July 22 at 6.15 p.m. CEST.

    2012EBTLogo_small.jpg The 2012 European Bowling Tour is made up of 21 events in 16 countries including two Platinum, four Gold, eight Silver and seven Satellite tournaments.

    The top 50 men and the top 50 women in each event earn ranking points based on how they finish in the event. The winner of a Platinum tournament receives 250 ranking points, the winner of a Gold tournament such as the 34th Trofeu Internacional Ciutat de Barcelona gets 150, the winner of a Silver tournament earns 100, and the winner of a Satellite tournament gets 50 ranking points.

    Those points will be tabulated throughout the season to determine the top 16 men and top 16 women who will compete in the sixth EBT Masters in Bratislava, Slovakia in Sept. 2013.
