Canadian Wong starts American Zone Youth Championships with victory in Girls Singles

Felicia means happy and that is exactly what Canadian Felicia Wong was when she finished her six-game series in the Girls Singles event at the 11th American Zone Youth Championships at Bol La Noria Pro in Puebla, Mexico.
Felicia rolled games of 214, 201, 200, 195, 202 and 192 en route to win the gold medal with 1204 six-game total and an average of 200,67. The Canadian was the sole player in the field who cracked the 1200-bar (200 average).
Jessica Santiago waited until the very last moment to earn the silver medal. The Puerto Rican shot 220 in her final game to move up from 7th place into second, where she finished with 1161 and an average of 193,50.
Patricia De Faria of Venezuela was second after five games trailing Felicia Wong by mere 13 pins but slipped to third place behind a 151-game. De Faria secured the bronze medal with 1150 and an average of 191,67.
Bryanna Caldwell was the high Junior Team USA finisher placing fourth at 1148 just two pins short of the bronze.
Competition continues Monday with the six-game doubles event. The American Zone Championships features nine countries and nearly 100 athletes, consisting of five disciplines (singles, doubles, team, all-events and Masters). Individual totals from singles, doubles, and team are combined to determine the all-events winner. The top 12 in all-events also advance to Masters play on Wednesday and Thursday.
