Bodo Konieczny wins qualifying in QubicaAMF German Open 2013

    Konieczny and Michaela Göbel-Janka to represent Germany at 49th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup in Siberia; cut for 40th place is 1296 (216 average)

    2013EBT05BodoKonieczny2.jpg2013EBT05MichaelaGobelJanka.jpgBodo Konieczny (pictured left) of Germany posted a 1409 series in the first in the 12th qualifying squad Saturday morning at A10 bowling center in Berlin, Germany, en route to win the qualifying of the QubicaAMF German Open 2013 and a 1.000 Euro bonus.

    Konieczny, who also received another 400 Euro bonus for winning his second squad, started his six games with 286, the highest game of the tournament so far and added 228, 217, 201 and 208 before he closed with 269 to beat out his fellow countrywoman Michaela Göbel-Janka (right) for the top spot by 21 pins.

As the top male and top female bowler from Germany, Konieczny and Göbel-Janka earned the right to represent Germany at the 49th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup in Siberia in November.

    Joonas Jehkinen (left) of Finland, European champion in All Events, was second to Konieczny in Squad 12 with 1386 including high games of 267, 253, 250 and 248 to jump into third place. George Stefanidis (above right) of Greece was fourth with 1375.

    2013EBT05LisaKabowski.jpg2013EBT05ElinAdolfsson.jpgWorld and European champion Martin Larsen of Sweden slipped to fifth place with 1371 and was followed by German national team member Marco Baade in sixth place with 1365 and fellow Swede Pontus Andersson in seventh place with 1361.

    Lisa Kabowski (left) of Germany, who had a 1312 total in Squad 1, took eighth place. The top eight players enjoy a two-round bye for the finals. Swede Elin Adolfsson (right) led the group in 9th to 16th place, who will bypass the first round of the finals, with 1356. The top three women after qualifying, Göbel-Janka, Kabowski and Adolfsson received a 1.000, 600 and 400 bonus, respectively.

    World and European champion Robert Andersson and Daniel Fransson (right), Sweden, led Squad 14 and 13 with 1327 and 1320 to make the first cut in 20th and 25th place, respectively. Each squad leader received a 400 Euro bonus.

    Thomas Pflanz of Germany took the 40th and last place to advance with 1296 and an average of 216. The top 40 will be joined in Sunday's finals by the top four players of Squad 3 (below left) and the top 4 of the Desperado Squad (below right).

    2013EBT05Squad3.jpg2013EBT05Desperados.jpgThe QubicaAMF German Open 2013 is the fifth stop of the 2013 European Bowling Tour and the second out of six EBT "Gold" events this season. The tournament will be held from Saturday, April 20 through Sunday, April 28, 2013 at A10 Bowling, a 32-laner in Berlin, Germany.

    Players will compete for total prize money of 60.000 Euro with 7.000 Euro going to the winner, 4.000 Euro to the runner-up and 2.400 apiece to the third and fourth place finishers.

    Qualifying (6 games, unlimited re-entries) ran through Saturday, April 27 and concluded with the one-game Desperado Squad. Women receive 8 pins handicap each game, a standard for women on the European Bowling Tour.

    The tournament features a 39 ft. Oil Pattern (pdf file) with 25.2ml volume oil total.

    The top 40 players from the overall qualifying standings plus the top 4 of Squad 3 (not among the top 40) and the top 4 of the Desperado Squad advanced to the finals on Sunday, April 28. The top eight qualifiers received a two-round bye while qualifiers 9-16 got a first-round bye.

    The first three rounds of the finals each consist of four games scratch which will trim the field to 28, 16 and then eight players, who will bowl for the title in single-elimination match play finals with the two-game total determining the winner.

    In each match, the highest seeded player will meet the lowest seeded player, the second-highest seeded player will meet the second-lowest seeded player, etc.

    2013EBTLogo_small.jpg The 2013 European Bowling Tour consists of 19 tournaments in 13 countries including two Platinum, six Gold, four Silver and seven Satellite events.

    The top 50 men and the top 50 women in each event receive ranking points. The winner of a Platinum tournament receives 250 ranking points, the winner of a Gold tournament such as the QubicaAMF German Open 2013 gets 150, the winner of a Silver tournament earns 100, and the winner of a Satellite tournament gets 50 ranking points.

    The top 12 men and the top 12 women at the end of the 2013 season qualify for the seventh EBT Masters to be held March 3, 2014 at Dolfijn Bowling in Tilburg, Netherlands immediately following the EBT Hammer Bronzen Schietspoel Tournament 2014.

    At the end of the qualifying, the top 40 plus the top four players from Squad 3 (places 41-44) and the top four of the Desperado Squad (places 45-48) will advance to the finals. The top 8 qualifiers will receive two byes and qualifiers 9-16 will get one bye.
