Andersson, Spagnoli tie at 1430 to take the qualifying lead in 9th San Marino Open

Robert Andersson of Sweden and Italian Davide Spagnoli (pictured left, l-r) posted the field-best 1430 series, a 238.33 average, in the 10th qualifying squad Wednesday afternoon at Rose'n Bowl in Serravalle to overtake the qualifying lead in the 9th San Marino Open.
Andersson, a former World Champion and four-time European Bowling Tour titlist, took the pole position due to the higher last game, 247 to Spagnoli's 221. The qualifying winner will receive a 1.000 Euro bonus.
Previous leader Norman Neumann (right) of Germany, who was the first player who surpassed the 1400-mark, slipped to third place with 1403 and was followed by Petteri Salonen of Finland in fourth place with 1394 and Yoan Alix of France in fifth place with 1390.

Joachim Karlsson of Sweden was next to Andersson and Spagnoli with 1388 to leap into sixth place in the overall standings. Rounding out the top 8, who will receive two byes for Sunday's finals at the end of the qualifying, are Rebecka Larsen (left) and Caroline Jonsson of Sweden, both with 1330 including 48 pins handicap, with the higher last game for Larsen (244 to 191).
Total nine players of Squad 10 cracked the 1300 mark including Frederik Øhrgaard (right) of Denmark and Alexandr Panchenko of Kazakhstan who moved into 11th and 13th place with 1363 and 1349, respectively. The players ranked 9 thru 16 after qualifying will bypass the first round of the finals.

With 134 players from 16 countries having completed at least on qualifying series, Sergey Zakharov of Russia is "on the bubble" in 35th place with 1281 or an average of 213.50 average.
Qualifying continues Thursday, July 11, with Squad 12-14 scheduled for noon, 4 and 8 p.m. CEST.
The 9th Storm San Marino Open is the 10th stop of the 2013 European Bowling Tour and the third out of six EBT "Gold" tournaments this season. The tournament will be held July 6-14 at 18-lane Rose'n Bowl in Serravalle, San Marino and offers total prize fund of 60.000 Euro with 8.000 Euro going to the winner, 5.000 to the runner-up, 3.500 to the third and 2.500 to the fourth place finisher.
The San Marino Open features a 41 feet Kegel lane conditioning pattern with 23.32 ml volume oil total.
The qualifying of the San Marino Open (six-game series, unlimited re-entries) runs from Saturday July 6 through Saturday, July 13 with the last qualifying squad 21 scheduled for 9 p.m. CEST. The qualifying winner will receive a 1.000 Euro bonus.
Qualifying concludes with the one-game Desperado Squad scheduled to start at half past Midnight on early Sunday morning. Women receive 8 pins handicap each game throughout the entire tournament, a standard for women on the European Bowling Tour.
A total of 48 players will advance to the finals on Sunday, July 14 - the top 35 players from the overall qualifying standings plus the top 3 from the squads conducted on July 6-7, the top 3 from the squads conducted on July 8-9, the top 4 from the squads conducted on July 10-11, and the top 3 from the Desperado Squad.
The top 8 qualifiers receive two byes and qualifiers 9-16 get one. The other 32 players will bowl four games from scratch to cut to the top 16, who will meet qualifiers 9-16 in round two. Those 24 bowl another 4 games from scratch to cut to the top 8, who will join the top eight in the last four-game round before the cut to the top 4 who will determine the winner in a traditional stepladder final.
The 2013 European Bowling Tour consists of 19 tournaments in 13 countries including two Platinum, six Gold, four Silver and seven Satellite events.
The top 50 men and the top 50 women in each event earn ranking points based on how they finish. The winner of a Platinum tournament receives 250 ranking points, the winner of a Gold tournament such as the San Marino Open gets 150, the winner of a Silver tournament earns 100, and the winner of a Satellite tournament gets 50 ranking points.
Points are tabulated throughout the season and the top 12 men and the top 12 women qualify for the seventh EBT Masters to be held March 3, 2014 at Dolfijn Bowling in Tilburg, Netherlands immediately following the EBT Hammer Bronzen Schietspoel Tournament 2014.
