Brittni Hamilton moves to the top of Squad B in women's division at 50th World Cup

    Team USA member averages 228 as 34 of 70 women have completed 10 of 20 qualifying games; Colombia's Clara Guerrero averages 240 for the day to leap into third place

    2014BWCBrittniHamilton.jpg2014BWCRebeckaLarsen.jpgBrittni Hamilton (pictured left), United States, toppled 1151 pins, an average of 230.20 for five games, in the second qualifying block to take the early lead in the women's division at the 50th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup in Wroclaw, Poland, with 2280 and an overall average of 228.

    Hamilton, who was third overall behind an 1129 series in the first block on Tuesday, rolled games of 260, 211, 206, 215 and 259 to overtake Rebecka Larsen (right) of Sweden by eleven pins.

    The two-time European champion added 1120 to the 1149 from Tuesday but slipped one spot to second place with 2269 (226.90).

    2014PBAWSOBClaraGuerrero.jpg2014BWCDariaKovalova.jpgClara Juliana Guerrero (left) of Colombia, who arrived just a few hours prior to yesterday's first round, started the day in seventh place in Squad B and 13th place overall with 1027 (205.40 average).

    The two-time World Champion of 2009 (All-Events and Masters) was the best bowler so far on the second day of qualifying, men and women, averaging 240.40 for the round.

    Guerrero, who bowled in the PBA Women Regional Challenge Finals during the PBA World Series of Bowling VI, had games of 235, 268, 215, 228 and 256 to become the first woman and the fourth player overall to crack the 1200-mark in this year's World Cup. She moved into third place with 2229 total.

    2014BWCKaitlynCommane.jpg2014BWCMarianaAyala.jpgDaria Kovalova (above right) of Ukraine had the third-highest series behind Guerrero and Hamilton with 1139 to leap into fourth place with 2150. The European champion and European Champions Cup winner had five games between 205 and 246.

    Kaitlyn Commane of Australia and Mariana Ayala of Puerto Rico swapped places though they both almost managed to match their scores from Tuesday. Commane added 1076 to 1073 to remain in fifth place with 2149. Ayala, who started with 1074 slipped to sixth place behind a 1072 series and 2146 total.

Rounding out the top 8 as 34 of 70 women have completed 10 of 20 qualifying games was Jolanda Visser (right) of the Netherlands with 2126.

    The average to make the cut to the top 24 is currently 194.20. The 36 women of Squad A will complete the second round of qualifying later this afternoon starting at 5.30 p.m. CET.

    Squad A leader Liza Del Rosario, Philippines, who led after the first round with 1195 and an average of 239, needs a 1085 series (217 average) to tie Hamilton for the overall lead.

    Live coverage and live streaming commences on Tuesday, November 4th, with the first round of qualifying and concludes on Sunday 9th with the stepladder finals.

    2014BWCLogo.jpg The preliminaries consist of four blocks of five games with the top 24 men and the top 24 women after 20 games advancing to the intermediate round. Those 24 players bowl further 8 games with the pinfall total from the preliminaries being carried forward.

    The top 8 men and the top 8 women after 28 games will bowl a further seven games round robin match play plus one game position round (total 8 games) with 30 pins bonus per win and 15 for a tie.

    The top 3 men and the top 3 women after 36 games including bonus pins will determine the champions in the stepladder finals in best-of-three games format.
