Legnani, Barrett, Ã…rup to bowl for the title in VII Catalonia Open

Lucas Legnani (pictured left) from Argentina, rolled a 948 4-game series in the semifinal of the VII Catalonia Open - Trofeu Galasa en route to secure the top seed for the stepladder finals with 2674 pinfall total.
Dominic Barrett (right), England, was just one pin better and had the highest scratch with 949, a 237.25 average, to help grab the second place with 2619.
He will meet Mathias Arup (below, left), Sweden, in the opening match. Arup totaled 2557 behind a 926 semifinal series to beat out Jesper Agerbo (832) for third place by 12 pins. Agerbo finished in fourth place with 2545.
Kirsten Penny (right), England, posted a 920 series and added 32 pins handicap but missed the final by 13 pins to land in fifth place with 2544. Penny, who finished second to Swede Nina Flack in the 2008 EBT ranking season, won the women's rankings in Barcelona and 100 ranking points.
A total of 48 players, the top 30 in the overall qualifying standings plus the top player of each qualifying squad not among the top 30 plus the next best six women, advanced to the finals and carried forward 50 per cent of their respective qualifying total.
Those 48 players bowled four games. The top 24 advanced and determined the three players for the stepladder finals in another 4-game block with the previous pinfall being carried forward. In the stepladder, No. 3 Ã…rup takes on No. 2 Barrett for the right to bowl No. 1 Legnani for the title and the 12.000 top prize.
The VII Catalonia Open - Trofeu Galasa is the third stop of the 2009 European Bowling Tour and one of the Tour's "Majors". The tournament offers total prize fund of 55.000 Euro. The top 48 players will cash.
