Thomas Larsen, Wiekeraad/Van der Tol move into 10th in Singles and Doubles in Squad 10

    Dennis Larsen rolls the third perfecto of the 8th Columbia 300 Vienna Open

    2010EBT15ThomasLarsen.jpg2010EBT15MikaKoivuniemi.jpgDanish national team member Thomas Larsen (pictured left) and Dutch women's national team members Bianca Wiekeraad and Ghislaine van der Tol moved into 10th place in Singles and Doubles, respectively, during the 10th of 17 qualifying squads of the 8th Columbia 300 Vienna Open Friday morning at Plus Bowling in Vienna, Austria.

    Larsen had individual games of 205, 227, 255, 232, 218 and 235 for 1372 six-game total and an average of 228.67 missing the top 8, who will earn a bye for the Singles finals, by 10 pins.

Mere two pins behind are Martin Larsen, Sweden, and 4-time PBA champion Sean Rash (pictured left), United States, both with 1447.

    Lorenc Jaroslav, Czech Republic, holds the 52nd and last place to advance with 1258 (209.67).

    Dennis Larsen (right, no relation), Denmark, set the highlight Friday morning at Plus Bowling when the Dane rolled the third 300 game of the tournament in game #3. Larsen, who started with 187 and 203 and closed out his set with back-to-back 169 and 194, landed in 70th place in the overall qualifying standings with 1222 pinfall total, already 36 pins off the pace for the finals.

Rash and Lynda Barnes, United States, remained in second place with 2754 followed by Torgersen Tore, Norway, and Mathias Ă…rup, Sweden, in third at 2749. Places 4-9 also remained unchanged.

    Bianca Wiekeraad and Ghislaine van der Tol (pictured right, l-r) were the only team in Squad 10 which cracked the top 20 (cashers) in the Doubles competition. Wiekeraad finished her block with a huge 268 game and 1361 pinfall total including 48 pins handicap., the highest score for a woman in the tournament thus far (currently the 12th place in Singles). Van der Tol contributed 1281 to help the duo grab the 10th place with 2642.

    Qualifying continues on Friday with Squad 11-13 scheduled for 1pm, 5pm and 9pm CET.

    2010VOLogo.jpg The 8th Columbia 300 Vienna Open is the 15th stop of the 2010 European Bowling Tour and one of the Tour's "Gold" events. The tournament will be held from Tuesday Sept. 28 through Sunday Oct. 3, 2010 at 32-lane Plus Bowling in Vienna, Austria.

    Since the Ankara Open and the Austria Challenge have been cancelled and the English Open has lost its EBT status, the 2010 EBT Tour consists of 18 events - 2 EBT Platinum tournament (formerly Premier), 6 EBT Gold tournaments (formerly Major), 6 EBT Silver tournaments (formerly Challenger) and 4 EBT Satellite tournaments (new category).

    More than 300 players from 26 countries will compete for an increased total prize money of 70.630 Euro - 60.400 € in Singles and 10.230 € in Doubles. The singles champion will receive the 7.000 Euro top prize while the doubles winners will split 1.600.

    Once again the qualifying for the Vienna Open finals is contested as a doubles tournament. Each duo rolls at least one six-game block. Unlimited re-entries with different partners are possible but each player can only cash once with the same partner.

    Qualifying runs from Tuesday through Saturday and ends with the ultimate one-game Desperado Squad on Saturday night Oct. 2 slated for 11.30 pm local time (GMT +1). Women receive 8 pins handicap each game, a standard on the European Bowling Tour

    A total of 64 players will qualify for the Vienna Open finals on Sunday, Oct. 3:
    • the top 52 players from the overall qualifying standings
    • the first player each from Squad 1-6, who is not among the top 52 (total 6 players)
    • and the top 6 from the Desperado Squad.

    The other 52 players will bowl 6 games starting from scratch to cut to the top 22, who will join the top qualifiers in Round Two.

    Those 30 players will bowl another 6 games starting from scratch after which the field will be trimmed to the top 18, who will carry their pinfall forward into Round Three. After another 6-game block the top 4 with the highest 12-game total will advance to the stepladder finals.

    The No. 4 seed meets the No. 3 in the opening match and the winner takes on the No. 2 seed for the right to bowl the top seed for the title, 150 ranking points and the 7.000 Euro top prize.
