2010AUSMastersLyndaBarnes.jpg2010AUSMastersSamCooley.jpgLynda Barnes (pictured left), United States and Sam Cooley (right), New South Wales, claimed the women's and men's title in the AMF Australian Masters 2010 Saturday at AMF Bowling Rooty Hill RSL in Sydney, Australia and received the $15,000 and $25,000 AUD top prizes, respectively.

The women's championship match was an all-U.S. affair, with Barnes and fellow Team USA member Wendy Macpherson (left) facing off. The two Americans, who used high games of 259 (Barnes) and 258 (Macpherson) to barely make the cut to the single-elimination finals in best-of-five format, split the first two games before Barnes won games three and four, 188-145 and 210-169, to wrap up the title, worth $15,000 AUD (approx. 14,650 USD).

In the opening round, Barnes, the No. 8 seed, eliminated top seeded Cassie Staudinger, Victoria, 3-1, while Macpherson went the distance to beat No. 3 seed Lexi Nicoll, NSW, 3-2.

On the men's side, the four top seeded players No. 1 Sam Cooley, NSW; No. 2 defending champion Paul Trotter (right), VIC; No. 3 Carl Bottomley, QLD; and No. 4 Michael Little, NSW survived the Round of 8.

Cooley then made quick work of qualifying leader Little (3-0) while Trotter posted games of 237, 244 and 247 to eliminated Bottomley, 3-1, to set up a title match between the two top seeded players.

Cooley and Trotter traded wins over the first four games and the winner was decided in the final frame of a high-scoring fifth game. Cooley topped Trotter by just three pins, 237-234, to win the men's title and the $25,000 AUD top prize (approx. 24,420 USD).

Bowlers filling qualifying positions 17 through 40 competed in Round 1. No pinfall will carry over in any of the final rounds.

Bowlers 17 through 40 bowled 6 games scratch to cut to the top 12 bowlers who joined bowlers seeded positions 5 through 16 in Round 2. These 24 bowlers also played 6 games scratch. The top 12 bowlers on total pinfall meet the top 4 qualifiers in Round 3.

These 16 bowlers played another six-game block scratch. The top 8 bowlers on total pinfall determined the champion in single-elimination best-of-five games match play.
