Dominic Barrett wins qualifying and 1.000 Euro bonus in 7th Storm San Marino Open

    Leads total 48 players into Sunday's finals; cut for 38th place is 1338 (223 ave.)

    The 2010 European Bowling Tour men's ranking had a 1474 six-game series, an average of 245.67, and leads total 48 players of the 228 -player field from 19 countries into Sunday's finals.

    Andersson was second with 1474 (245.67) and was followed by Thomas Larsen, Denmark, in third place with 1464 and Antonio Maddaloni, Italy, in fourth place with 1417.

Williams, the 2007 World Ranking Masters champion, led Squad 20 with 1451 including a high games of 278 and three 250s to land in fifth place.

    In Squad 19 the world and Asian Games champion from Malaysia used two 258 games for 1371 (228.50 average) to help grab sixth place with 1419 including handicap. Cheah was the best of 28 women in the field and one ten, who survived the first cut, including five out of six players from the Malaysian women's national team.

    2011EBT11MikaKoivuniemi.jpg2011EBT11AmletoMonacellit.jpgPlaces seven through twelve, who earned one bye, belonged to PBA Player of the Year, Mika Koivuniemi (left; 9th, 1411) of Finland, Italians Maurizio Celli (8th, 1412) and Davide Spagnoli (10th, 1399) and Malaysians Syafiq Ridhwan (7th, 1417), Adrian Ang (11th, 1396) and Jacqueline Sijore (12th, 1395).

    PBA Hall of Famer Amleto Monacelli (right) of Venezuela led the penultimate squad 21 Saturday evening at Rose'n Bowl in Serravalle, San Marino with 1370 to finish qualifying in 21st place. The 19-time PBA champion and two-time PBA Player of the Year closed out his set with 279 and 259.

    Sin Li Jane, Malaysia and three-time EBT ranking winner Paul Moor (right) were tied at 1338. The Malaysian beat out the Englishman for 38th and last place to advance by virtue of the higher last game, 215 to 206.

    Moor, however, posted a huge 262 game in the ultimate one-game Desperado Squad to bowl his way into the finals. Joining Moor were Nicola Galeone, Italy (248) and Miguel Lopez, United States (243).

    Rounding out the 48 players who advanced from the qualifying were the top 4 from the squads conducted on July 4-6 and the top 3 from the squads conducted on July 2-3.

    2011EBT11SanMarinoBanner_small The 7th Storm San Marino Open is the 11th stop of the 2011 European Bowling Tour and the fourth out of six EBT "Gold" tournaments this season.

    The tournament will be held from July 2-10, 2011 at 18-lane Rose'n Bowl in Serravalle, San Marino and offers total prize fund of 60.000 Euro with 10.000 Euro going to the winner, 6.000 to the runner-up and 3.400 each to the third and fourth place finisher.

Nicole Sanders (right) of the Netherlands finished in sixth place to win the women's rankings.

    Since the Viborg International in Viborg in Denmark has been cancelled, the 2011 European Bowling Tour consists of 21 tour stops in 17 countries including two Platinum, six Gold, seven Silver and six Satellite tournaments.

    The top 50 men and the top 50 women in each event receive ranking points. The winner of a Platinum tournament receives 250 ranking points, the winner of a Gold tournament such as the San Marino Open gets 150, the winner of a Silver tournament earns 100, and the winner of a Satellite tournament gets 50 ranking points.

    The top 16 men and the top 16 women at the end of the 2011 season qualify for the fifth EBT Masters to be held at Dream-Bowl Palace in Unterföhring near Munich, Germany on April 30 and May 1, 2012. The event will become the first EBT Masters to be contested on lane condition.

    Qualifying of the 7th Storm San Marino Open (six-game series, unlimited re-entries) ran from Saturday, July second through Saturday, July 9th. Women receive 8 pins handicap each game throughout the entire event, a standard for women on the European Bowling Tour.

    The San Marino Open features a 40 feet Kegel lane conditioning pattern with 24.25ml volume oil total.

    A total of 48 players advanced to the finals on Sunday - the top 38 players from the overall qualifying standings plus the top 3 from the squads conducted on July 2-3, the top 4 from the squads conducted on July 4-6 and the top 3 from the Desperado Squad. The top 6 qualifiers earned two byes, while qualifiers 7-12 got one.

    The other 36 players will bowl four games from scratch to cut to the top 18, who will meet qualifiers 7-12 in round two. Those 24 bowl another 4 games from scratch to cut to the top 10, who will join the top six qualifiers in single-elimination match play with the two game total pinfall determining the winner.

    The highest seeded player bowls the lowest seeded, the second-highest seeded players bowls the second-lowest and so on. The field will be cut to 8, 4 then 2, who will bowl for the title and the 10.000 Euro top prize.
