U.S girls and Mexican boys take gold in trios in Sub-20 PABCON Youth Championships

2009PYCGirlsTriosUSA.jpgThe Junior Team USA girls won its third gold medal in as many events Wednesday night, claiming the trios title in the Under-20 division, while the Mexican boys cruised to victory at the 2009 Pan American Bowling Confederation Youth Championships.

The United States trio of Jenn Boisselle, Kristie Petravich and Christine Bator (pictured r-l) earned the gold medal with a six-game total of 3,765, topping host Colombia by 102 pins. Boisselle led the group with a 1,309 individual total, an average of better than 218 per game. Petravich added 1,236, while Bator shot 1,220.

Junior Team USA's girls, who have already claimed the Singles (Bator) and Doubles (Bator and Brittni Hamilton) gold medals, led Colombians Laura Fonnegra, Anggie Ramirez and Maria Rodriguez by 140 pins heading into the final game and held off a final push to earn the gold. Fonnegra shot 1,275 and was followed by Rodriguez (1,225) and Ramirez (1,163).

"All of our nerves started to come back that last game," Boisselle said. "We saw the Colombians start stringing strikes, so we were definitely nervous. We just had to bowl our game and it worked out for us."

Canada's Rosalie Hiscock (1,153), Kodee Pilling (1,309) and Valerie Calberry (1,109) took the bronze with 3,571.

2009PYCBoysTriosMEX.jpgOn the boys side, Mexico ran away with the gold medal, topping the United States by nearly 200 pins. Andre Fors Farias, Jorge Ramos and Alejandro Montijo (pictured right) averaged 220.13 as a team and pulled away with a 737 in Game 4. They finished with 3,975, topping Junior Team USA's 3,791. Montijo led the Mexicans with a 1,383 series and was joined by Farias (1,371) and Ramos (1,221).

Chris Pierson set the pace for Junior Team USA with 1,320, while Jake Peters shot 1,255 and Daniel Spink fired 1,216.

Venezuela's Michael Picarri (1,337), Giorgio Clinaz (1,159) and Kevin Belandria (1,281) took the bronze medal with 3,777, just 14 pins behind the Americans.

Bator has an 18-game total of 3,859, an average of 214.39, while Peters leads with 3,916, an average of 217.56.

Team event begins Thursday with the opening three-game block and concludes Friday with three final games. After team, the top 16 players in the all-events standings will advance to Masters match play on Saturday.
