Arturo Hernandez leads men's division after Day 1

American Zone ranking champion Arturo Hernandez from Venezuela took the pole position after the first day of qualifying in the men's World Ranking Masters. Hernandez averaged 244,75 for his eight games on short oil and felled 1958 pins and received the 1,000 Dollar bonus from Kegel founder and Lane Condition Guru John Davis (pictured).
Hernandez has an 86-pin cushion over Finn Pasi Uotila, who finished second with 1872. England's Stuart Williams closed out the night shift with a 278-game to help grab the third place with 1819 pinfall. 2004 ABC Tournament Singles and All Events champion John Janawicz from the United States is fourth with 1804.
Former World and World Cup champion Ahmed Shaheen, Qatar, and Malaysian champion Daniel Lim are tied for fifth place at 1801. Shaheen shot the men's high game of 288. Seventh place belongs to Chester King from the Philippines, 1758, with former PBA professional Jouni Helminen, Finland, in 8th place at 1726. Rounding out the top ten are Victor Richards Jr., Dominican Republic, 1713, and Kimmo Lehtonen, Finland, 1712.
Due to Lehtonen's 10th place Europe has four players among the top ten with Asia and America three each. The men outaveraged the women in the first 8-game block on short oil by mere 1.11 pin (42176 pinfall total and 210,88 average versus 41953 pinfall total and 209,77 average).
