Chris Barnes leads Squad 12 to move into 12th place at Columbia 300 Vienna Open

    No changes in the top 8 in the 5 p.m. squad; cut nears the 1300-mark, is now 1288 (214.67 average)

    The 13-time PBA champion, who won the gold medal at the World Singles Championships on Cyprus last month, toppled 1381 pins improving his previous high series by 24 pins en route to leap six spots into 12th place in the overall qualifying standings.

    Barnes had games of 237, 226, 214, 214, 265 and 225. Stuart Williams of England leads the field of 283 players from 26 countries with 1544 and an average of 257.33. Patrick Bohm (right) of Sweden leaped into 16th place behind a 1362 series. Anders Lousdal of Denmark was next with 1356, good for 20th place.

Another four players, Olli Pakonen, Finland (32nd; 1320), Lynda Barnes (pictured left with husband Chris), United States (33rd; 1319) Daniel Fransson, Sweden (37th; 1315) and Rene Landl, Austria (43rd; 1309), cracked the 1300-bar but are still in danger to miss the cut.

    Bohm & Fransson were the best in Doubles in thies squad with 2677, an average of 223.08, good for 8th place of 275 doubles so far. Stuart Williams & Dennis Eklund (above right, r-l) of Sweden held on to the lead in Doubles with 2790 and an average of 232.50. Jo Allsebrook of England holds the 52nd and last place to advance with 1288 or an average of 214.67 including handicap. Qualifying continues on Friday with 13 scheduled for 9 p.m. CEST.     2012VOLogo.jpg The 10th Columbia 300 Vienna Open is the 16th stop of the 2012 European Bowling Tour and the last of four EBT "Gold" tournaments (the second-highest category) this season. Players will compete for an increased total prize fund of 75.130 Euro (approx. $100,000) - 64.900 ‚ā¨ for Singles and 10.230 ‚ā¨ for the Doubles event.

    The singles champion will receive the 7.000 ‚ā¨ top prize, the runner-up earns 5.000 and the third and fourth-place finishers get 3.500 and 2.500 Euro, respectively. The doubles champions will split 1.600 ‚ā¨.

    The 10th Columbia 300 Vienna Open will also award a PBA Tour title if won by a PBA member or a PBA international member.

    The tournament will be contested on 39 ft. oil pattern with 27.1 ml volume oil total (Kegel LaneMap‚ĄĘ Guide Plus Bowling Vienna).

    The qualifying of the Vienna Open is traditionally contested as a Doubles tournamentwhich runs from Tuesday, Oct. 2 through Saturday, Oct. 6 with the final Squad 17 starting at 8 p.m. local time (CEST). Qualifying concludes with the one-game Desperado Squad slated for 11.30 p.m. Women receive 8 pins handicap each game, a standard on the European Bowling Tour

    A total of 64 players will qualify for the Vienna Open finals on Sunday, Oct. 7:
    • the top 52 players from the overall qualifying standings
    • the first player each from Squad 1-6, who is not among the top 52 (total 6 players)
    • and the top 6 from the Desperado Squad.

    The top 8 qualifying leaders will bypass the first round of the finals. The other 56 players will bowl six games starting from scratch to cut to the top 22, who will join the top qualifiers in Round Two.

    Those 30 players will bowl another six games starting from scratch after which the field will be trimmed to the top 18, who will carry the pinfall forward into Round Three. After another six-game block the top 4 players with the highest 12-game total will advance to the stepladder finals.

    Bowling fans around the world will be able to watch the stepladder finals on Sunday, Oct. 7 at 5 p.m. CEST (11.00 a.m. EDT; 11.00 p.m. Hong Kong Time) live on Bowlingdigital TV. The award ceremonies are scheduled for 6.00 p.m. CET. The live streaming coverage is a partnership between Bowlingdigital.com, Austrian Bowling Federation, Plus Bowling, Columbia 300 and Ottakringer, the official beer of the Vienna Open.
