Team USA members are doing well in MoRich Over and Under Doubles
07/03/06
Scott Pohl (right) of Burnsville, MN, became the fourth former or current Team USA bowler to advance to the finals of the MoRich Over and Under Doubles Championship at The Orleans Bowling Center in Las Vegas.
Pohl, a 3-time Team USA member teamed with Ron Mohr of Eagle River, Ark., to lead the fourth and penultimate qualifying squad with 1370 pinfall total and an average of 228,33 for three games. The squad leaders earned two byes for winning squad 3 and guaranteed a minimum of $2,000.
"We bowled in the first squad yesterday and missed cashing by 1 pin", said Pohl. Every squad features a 1 in 5 cashing ratio with last cash guaranteed to pay at least $800 to double the entry fee. "We gave it another shot today and I drilled up a MoRich Awesome Hook. It helped as I had a better ball reaction than yesterday."
Pohl shot the highest individual series of 707 and Mohr added 663.
Willie Willis, Hamden, CT (pictured), set the highlight in the squad when he rolled the first 300 game of the tournament week to finish second with partner Nick Morgan, Sacramento, Canada, with 1359 to advance to the first round of finals and secure minimum of $1,000.
Kerry Painter, Henderson, NV, and another Team USA member, David Haynes, Las Vegas, NV, cashed $800 for the second time in this tournament as they landed in third place with 1321. Qualifying will conclude after the next squad.
All teams that have advanced, except the five squad leaders earning 2 byes, will bowl one game with the top 50% advancing to the next round. Teams keep bowling as long as they continue to beat half the field. In Round 3, the five seeded teams will join the remaining teams, and continue to bowl one-game rounds until the $10,000 MoRich Doubles champion is crowned.
