Junior Team USA members come up strong in Mini-Eliminator qualifying

Former Junior Team USA member Erik Vermilyea, Maplewood, Minn., and current Junior Team USA member PJ Haggerty, Clovis, Calif. not only made the cut to the finals on the first day of qualifying in the 13th Annual Mini-Eliminator, but earned two byes as Division Daily Leader, worth $1,500 apiece.
Vermilyea rolled the highest series of all competitors on Monday to lead the Open Division with 726 three-game total. Haggerty, who already qualified for the finals in Squad 2, posted the highest series in the 35 and under Division with 693.
Craig Harrington, Herriman, Utah, was the only player in the 36 to 49 Division to crack the 700-bar with 702. Gerardo Loredo from Mexico set the pace in the 205 (average) and under Division with 651.
The only Division Daily Leader not from Squad 3 was Mark Estes, Grapevine, Texas, who shot 712 in Squad 1 to win the 50 and over Division. Qualifying continues on Tuesday with three more squads, 10am, noon and 2pm.
