England's Ann Smith becomes 7th woman to advance to Mini-Eliminator finals

Ann Smith from England was one of just four players in the 205 (average) and under division in the 8th qualifying squad of the 13th Annual Mini-Eliminator in Las Vegas. Smith posted a 580 three-game series, good enough to win the squad and to earn one bye for the finals worth $1,000.
With just 8 out of 22 qualifying squads played, she became the seventh woman to earn a spot in Sunday's finals. U.S. National Amateur champion Diandra Asbaty still owns the highest series of the entire event with 746.
The international players will be well represented in the finals as Canadian Joe Ciach and Brandon Qualischefski from Australia advanced from the Open Division. Ciach led the squad with 701, with the Aussie mere six pins behind in second position.
David Ewald, Macomb, MI, led the 35 and under Division with 673, while Rick Miller, Lincoln, NE, (36 to 49) and Stephen Bruck, Cincinnati, OH, (50 and over) rolled a 675-series each to help grab the bye in their respective division. Bruck's score is the division high and he has still a chance to get even two byes (worth $1,500) for being the Daily Leader.
The third day of qualifying will conclude with the 9th squad at 2pm. The fifth day of the Mini-Eliminator week will end with the second two-game Dexter Sweeper at 5pm and 7pm.
