Eklund shoots big game to defeat Asbaty in Lane #1 Match Play Shootout

Dennis Eklund put on a show Thursday evening at The Orleans Bowling Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, en route to win the Lane #1 Match Play Shootout. The Swede topped reigning U.S. National Amateur champion Diandra Asbaty in the title match, 279-200, to capture the $2,300 top prize.
Eklund, who finished his semi-final match against Mike Rose Jr., W Henrietta, N.Y., with 11 consecutive strikes for a 290-224 victory, kept hitting the front stick and had the front eight or a total of 19 strikes in a row to put the match away well before the finals frame.
Asbaty, who had back-to-back 250s in Round 4 and 5 and eliminated 4-time PBA champion Jess Stayrook, San Diego, Calif., in the semis, 235-196, received $1,700 for second place. Stayrook and Rose pocketed $1,250 each.

Andersin and Visser were among the 106 players who took on the lanes at The Orleans Bowling Center for the one-game single-elimination shootout.
While Andersin lost in the first round, the 24-year-old Dutch survived the first two rounds before she fell to Asbaty in Round 3 in a close match, 200-193.
