Webb and Schloss roll 700-plus series to advance to Mini-Eliminator finals

Bill Webb (left) from Enfield, Conn., rolled a 731-series - the highest series of Day Five qualifying thus far - to advance to the finals in the 35 and under Division. Ron Schloss (right), Mesa, Ariz., followed was close behind with 718 to advance from the 36 to 49 Division. Both players received one bye and are guaranteed $1,000.
Hal Wilber, Las Vegas, NV, beat out Lee Rautenberg, Boca Raton, Fla., by two pins, 633-631, to advance from the 50 and over Division. Steven Defazio, Owingsville, Ky., led the 14th out of 22 squads in the 205 and under Division with 606.
Australia's Jason Belmonte, one of the or perhaps even THE most frequent traveler among the international tournament bowlers, finally made the cut in the Open Division.
Belmonte, who uses a two-handed delivery to throw the ball with maximum speed and rotation, posted a 699-series to lead the division and to earn one bye. If he becomes the Division Daily Leader he will even get two byes worth $1,500.
Qualifying continues with one more squad at 2pm.
The Brunswick Shootout will start at 5pm at The Orleans Bowling Center. The Brunswick Shootout is another way to cash at The Mini-Eliminator. Mini-Eliminator entrants have a chance to win over $42,000 in cash prizes and get two new Brunswick balls with free expert drilling (1 ball only).
All bowlers qualifying or buying a spot ($250) into the Brunswick Shootout will bowl three games with any Brunswick ball at 5pm (36 to 49 /50 and over/205 and under divisions) or at 7:30pm (Open Division/35 and under). All will bowl 3 games across 6 lanes with everyone dropping their lowest game (only the highest two games will count). A total of 65 bowlers will advance to the finals on Saturday, July 8th at 7:30pm: The top 13 highest 2 game series from each division.
The highest series in each division receives two byes in the Shootout finals and is guaranteed $750. All other finalists earn a minimum of $250.
